UPDATE: Staff at the ICE concentration camp in Dilley, Texas have begun raiding the dormitories of kids and their parents to confiscate and destroy letters from the children. This is in response to the ace reporting by @micarosenberg et al for ProPublica:

Of course it does. And still, this evidence from *observers* is so incredibly powerful, and so, so unbelievably devastating and infuriating.
On DOGE’s watch, federal spending did not go down at all. It went up. But is still led to cuts that closed offices, canceled programs and deprived people of food, medicine and other aid.

It means the world that they come to me, & share w me. Truly. I see it as one of my most cherished roles.
And still, I think about this care work that so many of us do, that is so often invisible & unspoken, so disproportionately distributed, but also so incredibly heavy & important.
It struck me this week that I probably have more students cry in my office in a semester than some faculty have over the course of their entire careers. Not crying about my courses (phew) but bc they are having a hard time, bc the moment feels like too much, &/or bc they just want to be heard.
Fantastic new dataset on parental leave policies across european countries and time.
It will be a valuable research for social science and policy scholars from now on.
Proud to have been part of the multi-national team gathering information to put this together.
