If I have to attend another keynote presentation that uses AI generated infographics and images of people (trained on stock images, making it just look like an uncanny stock imageโso just use a stock image?)
I miss the days of taking our own photos, slides that are too busy, and the occasional typo.
Thanks! :)
Itโs my 33rd birthday! Here are some of my favourite things: skiing, trail running, beading, and learning new things! I played piano a little as a kid and decided yesterday that I would rent a keyboard and give it another go.
From the #TBR pile: On the Calculation of Volume series, by Solvej Balle. Just read book 3 yesterday and it is ONLY getting better; looking forward to book 4 in April. Kudos to the translators, for an intimate and lyrical read. I enjoy my time spent trapped in the 18th of November with Tara Selter.
Just finished up some *light reading* from the #TBR pile, it was taking so long I had to switch to the audiobook haha. The Origins of Totalitarianism by Hannah Arendt, eerily relevant in 2026 as it was when it was first published. Sigh.
Cool! I stayed at Barefoot Manta Island almost ten years ago. It is one of the most beautiful places Iโve ever been and I couldnโt believe how much life was in the water!
The gaslighting should absolutely not be surprising, yet it shocks me anyway.
Anne Frank died from a typhus epidemic that spread through the concentration camp where she was imprisoned.
From the #TBR pile: the much anticipated Fair Doses by Seth Berkley (2025), about his experience as CEO of GAVI and the creation of COVAX, whose goal was equitable global rollout of the COVID-19 vaccines. I will be thinking deeply about the lessons learned he shares, as they apply to my research. ๐
This and decades of people disparaging Arts degrees as useless
No one is illegal on stolen land.
But also, for the love of all, SHH! Who wrote this!
Red eye to Montreal then straight to the slopes at Tremblant! โท๏ธSuch a beautiful day was impossible to resist. Looking forward to a productive week with @cedrn.bsky.social and new colleagues at the Network of Canadian Emergency Researchers annual scientific meeting โ๏ธ๐ฆ #emergencyresearch #NCER
Catherine OโHara passing today breaks my heart. I was not ready.
More beadwork recently โจ made for a friend.
Keep your peer reviews richly detailed, a little ranty, and poorly formatted. Let your editors know you definitely did not use AI. Nay, make them wish you did!
in case you're curious about how angry Minnesota is about ICE, it was -20 today
As someone who doesnโt feel precious about the physical state of books and believes they are meant to be read, handled, shared - I agree! Itโs interesting!
I picked up a copy of Wuthering Heights from a used book store for cheap, and it comes with illustrations and incisive commentary. #Booksky
This study of 4,800 Swedish teens shows screen time disrupts sleep, and those sleep changes drive higher depressive symptomsโespecially for girls. Strong evidence that youth mental health policy needs to focus on sleep as much as screens.

I keep forgetting to share more of my #beadwork. This is a housewarming gift I made for a dear friend a few months ago.

Finally finished my little Halloween collection of library books. I.e., put on hold at the library in late October, resulting in a series of horror novels just in time for Christmas. This was scary enough to spend a few nights in the freezer, for sure. @chuckwendig.bsky.social
Folks, I am ready to update this list of great books on global health!
What new books can we add to this already wonderful list?

This is awesome! Thanks for sharing. I think Naomi Kleinโs newest novel Doppleganger (2023) lends a unique perspective to geopolitical and social issues relevant to global health.
How far can you go
I would die for these feet
