I too remember the earlier, woke wars. tons of spent microaggression munitions strewn about everywhere, friends crying out for God as they were slowly cancelled...look, if you weren't there, you'll never understand
When they start singing the marseillaise in the barβand you realize, holy shit, most of these actors playing French people are *FRENCH REFUGEES IN HOLLYWOOD* from the war that was ongoing during production!!
Man, it gives me chills

Roger roger! And when you say "factory draw", I assume that means it's *VASTLY* beyond the capacity of a homeβwhat the hell would we do with 1.5 megawatts?
Is this just arms-race flashiness? "We can fully charge a sedan in about twice as long as it takes to fill a gas tank?"
I assume in most cases that time isn't a huge factor for at-home charging. I don't own an EV, but if you're plugged in at home, you probably don't expect to move the car again for a few hours, right?
When/if you recharge on the road, how long does it usually take?
we are all very upset and traumatized and a lot of us are missing and two of us are deadβbut Kristi, we did this. It was us. Minneapolis says: Bye.
Mazel tov! Goodbye, Kristi Noem; hello-o-o-o, Garden Gnome!
Happy almost laserday! Good luck out there, space cowboy π«‘
This is basically what Dan Wang's BREAKNECK argues: in the closing chapters, he opines that liberals and leftists should embrace the spirit of Robert Mosesβdiscarding his racism and his petty tyrannies but keeping his dynamism and desire to build

Oh, hey!
Did I tell you this, o-my-fellow-Dave? I'm from Highland Park, right next door. I lived in Chicago proper in my 20s
That's amazing! In Chicago? What part of town?
ok let's actually see if we can rough this out afn yiddish

I was once buttonholed for forty minutes by the richest man in the world.
whoa!
You cookin now, cher.
Now I'm imagining a take on hamantasch filling in the po'boy, like...
like soft-cooked apricots! drained, battered, and fried to make em like oysters, poppy seeds shaken on top
I gotta tell you cher I can't even be mad
I feel like purim would benefit from krewe culture, tbh
It feels congruent. Big ol purim parades, people second-lining with graggers and tubas and such.
Tal! O, sandwich authority, I beseech thee: what is the most appropriate po'boy one could have for purim?
Oh, it means "it's hiding in plain sight, probably at eye level."
If they did this to me, I'd say, "Slow your roll, dinguses. I'm not even dead yet!"
It's one thing to make ventriloquist dummies out of corpses (another thing I hate!); it's another thing to turn living people into Hall of Presidents animatronics.
I am horrified and curious to see what you discover.
Is this product claiming it can approximate how you or King or Norris or whoever might copy-edit a passage? Is that what we're lookin' at here?
and now from there, I guess the question is: did Jeb realize it was an arch little family joke when he gave Marco Rubio the Sword of Chang [sic]?
braddelong.substack.com/p/hoisted-fr...
Prof. DeLong doesn't believe he does!
I see we grew up in similarly passive-aggressive environments!!
But yes: a weird little family expression, like Poppy Bush yelling that he'll unleash Chiang Kai-Shek on you when he's losing a tennis match
This is such a small but telling detail about Rubio that he allowed this Bush family in-joke to break containment by treating it like it was some kind of commonly-used expression.
It'd be like me saying "it's next to the butter" and expecting you to know the connotation that has in my parents' home
If any of you are from Botswana, I'd love to hear your take on notable vocab/usage distinctions between BrE/AmE/IndE/Botswanan English!
Here's a question for the linguists:
www.sundaystandard.info/botswana-oil...
What does "goof" mean in Botswanan English? It seems like it portends a much more dire error than the connotation it has in American English, which is kind of an "oopsy-daisy!" connotation.
Happy Great Kentucky Meat Shower Day to all who celebrate!
Oh boy!!
But yeah, Sharon: I'm very under-read here. I remember the PKK fighting al-Assad in the Syrian civil war, and I know that Iraqi Kurdistan is kind of its own autonomous region.
What else is happening there?
What would the goal be for restive Iranian Kurds? carve out an independent state out of Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkiye and make a sovereign Kurdistan?
