It reminds me of people who watched the Last Jedi and threw a tantrum over the idea of Luke Skywalker being moody. Our baseline understandings are just completely at odds.
Still baffles me that people watched games 1 and 2 of the NBA finals last year and thought Tatum was bad. All analysis of the discourse around him must be seen through that filter of understanding.
American pope really demystifies the whole thing some, in a good way I think. Recognizing references in Wikipedia, seeing photos at baseball games, the interviews with the brother. Also kinda crazy to go from anonymity to one of the most famous Americans ever, instantly.
Even as somebody who has felt like there's no rush this year, it's hard to read this as a Red Sox fan and not immediately think of Roman Anthony. www.wsj.com/sports/socce...
From lurking menace to religious idol on full display
One sign of getting older is that the phrase "You only live once" registers more as a reason not to do something than to do it.
RL Stine stuff.
Seen like 8 more of these today. Underrated cultural impact!
I recall seeing the word inflation make its way into advertisements quite early in 2022. Now starting to see it happen with tariffs as well.
“That just makes me so sad that we had convinced all of these investors that this time was different and that we really wanted people to look to the United States to commercialize their technology, and now they’re receiving the opposite message." www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

At least the posting will probably be pretty good tomorrow.
Devers up over an .800 OPS after all that — nature has healed.
Second time in the last 13 months Trump has been president that we can watch the global economy slam on the brakes in real time.
Recalled today this piece I wrote in 2017. Just to say, none of this discourse is news and the effects shouldn't be a surprise.

All I know is that during the last administration they ran the economy hot to some decent labor results but also higher prices, and the clear, shining, massive-typeface political takeaway was that this remains a consumer economy above all else.
So, we'll see I guess.
Ah, yes, the ol’ Big Chart Rollout.
Something sentimental to be said about the continuity there. Same way I've felt about Brown/Tatum coming directly out of the Pierce/Garnett trade.
"Tariffs? Don't talk to me about -- tariffs?! You kidding me? I just hope we can win an election! An off-cycle election!"
I think it was probably fair regardless but that second paragraph absolves you of any grief.
I do recall him being Tommy's 1b.
If somebody a week ago told me I could get a Garrett Crochet extension but the cost would be a 1-4 #RedSox start, I would have accepted that deal in a second.
I'm getting old, I realize, and this ain't your 1990s mall scene anymore ... but still, if we've gotten to the point that we're breaking up teenagers and the mall then something has gone adrift. www.bostonglobe.com/2025/03/25/m...
I think the Houthi group text story will be a pretty good Trump-era test case for whether a story that happens on a Monday can remain relevant until the Sunday political talk shows.
("No" feels like the safe bet to me.)
I was wondering if there's a way to combine South Station expansion with this idea actually...
Begging anybody speculating about a new Celtics arena to familiarize themselves with the last two decades of Revolution stadium discourse, as well as MBTA operations and various Boston real estate developments.
Sure but why *not* make it faster? Especially for turnover purposes.
