TUC: Pensions Commission should be prepared to go beyond its remit
In the first of a new series, Jack Jones of the Trades Union Congress outlines what the UK's leading workers' representative body would like to see from the Pensions Commission.
I have joined the long list of people sharing their opinions on what the pension commissioners should get up to over the next year and a half. Although obviously the main point of discussion for everyone who knows me is 'how old is that headshot??'

Gender gap means retired women βhave four months a year with no pensionβ
Income inequality means women in effect stop receiving a pension from 21 August, union leaders say
π¨ Prospect research reveals women lose out on Β£7,600 a year in retirement.
A 36.5% gender pension gap β that's double the gender pay gap.
This inequality is unacceptable. Government must take real action now to close the gap.

Although I always feel slightly embarrassed about reports that start 'TUC research shows' when we basically just copy the excellent work of @prospectpension.bsky.social

Big opportunity for the government to shape pensions policy for decades to come.
Vital that they show plenty of ambition.
