Two common European pink-flowering Lamium species. When growing side by side, the differences are clear, but they are sometimes confused.
- Lamium maculatum (left): larger, curved corolla tube, wet forests.
- Lamium purpureum (right): smaller, straight corolla tube, human settlements and farmland.

Reed belts and open water criss-crossed by old trenches
Measuring in a Coastal mire (you see the Eddy-Covariance tower in the middle?) between land and sea with the legacy of the two biggest climate sins: 1. Drained peatlands (this one rewetted since quite a few years now). 2. The coal power plant (on the horizon), which hopefully will shut down soon.

Winter is for finishing, recalibrating and community. Today we combined it all and cleaned up our longest running field site, which looks like a lake but is actually a #peatland, in a joined effort by Universities of Rostock and Greifswald. Wishing you all a joyful end of the year!

Because of different sensitivities and feedbacks in the climate system, there's essentially a linear relationship between cumulative CO₂ emissions and global warming that we call Transient Climate Response to Emissions (TCRE).
If we want global warming to stop increasing we must stop CO₂ emissions.
The positive feedback between climate change and peatland methane emissions (www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...) forces us to reduce anthropogenic methane emissions from fossil fuels and agriculture ASAP.
