Slip lane converted to sidewalk
Beautiful image of a slip lane becoming a new sidewalk in NW Atlanta! I love seeing slip lanes go away; these are awful spots for pedestrians.
Creating nicer places for walking involves hundreds of little changes like this. π

In the past year, metro Atlanta saw more evictions than all of New York Cityβdespite having *one-quarter* the renters.
Multiple Atlanta apartment complexes averaged an eviction a day.
"The numbers are mind-blowing," said Grace Hartley of Princeton's Eviction Lab.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that when Atlantans talk about places being "accessible," they usually mean "there's a bunch of free parking near the door."
I had optimistically assumed they mean there were great sidewalks, crosswalks, buses, and ADA ramps.

Drivers on some roads in Decatur will notice lower speed limits. The speeds were reduced on College Avenue, Scott Boulevard, South Candler Street, Clairemont Avenue and Commerce Drive.

We've done numbers. We've tightened our belt. We've figured out how much we need to raise from the community to keep our work going.
We need you to help us raise $65,000 to ACPC keep operating at the level you expect from us until the second half of the year, when most of our revenue comes in.
Maybe if enough of them trip over tree roots, cracks, and bulging hexagonal tiles, the city will actually make the sidewalks ADA compliant
I got to use the streetcar today! After I had a great lunch from Afro Dish at the Municipal Market and bought some groceries at one of the produce stands at the Market, I took the streetcar a couple of stops so I could be a little closer for my walk back home. $1 (paid on the Breeze app). Worth it.
IF ONLY ATLANTA HAD THE MONEY TO BUILD A SIMILAR PROJECT WITH TRAMS ON GRASS, SEPARATED FROM CARS π
ICE killed a teacher in Georgia today when they chose to chase a man who posed no danger and had no criminal history.
Join us tomorrow at noon, near 225 Peachtree Street, for a press conference to demand the city fulfill its promise to build a raised crosswalk. In addition, please sign the petition calling for change.
RSVP and sign: www.letspropelatl.org/peachtreepre...
With approved designs and funding in place, yet no sign of action, we say: a safer Peachtree Street should not be this difficult β nor this delayed. With lives lost at this very spot, additional delay will put more people at risk for injury and death.

"Is it safe to drive in Atlanta? ATL DOT urges residents to stay off roads"
I'd love for this (from last weekend) to not be about winter weather and instead just be a general statement about keeping cars off the road. π
Atlantaβs overall population is about 46% Black, but its homeless population was about 80% Black last year.
Metro Atlantaβs homeless population has been on the rise for the past three years.
