This morning, I chaired my first hearing as Chair of the Committee on Civil and Human Rights focused on budgeting for equity.
It remains unclear and unlikely that the FY27 budget will be informed by the Racial Equity Plans, as required by our city's charter.
While we are aligned with the stated long-term goals of the current administration, we urge the Mamdani administration to honor the law and release the long overdue racial equity plan to guide the FY27 budgeting process.”
Since then the Eric Adams administration failed to prioritize and produce this Racial Equity Plan, resulting in a now years-long delay.
In 2022, hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers overwhelmingly voted to amend the Charter to require racial equity plans across city government and to establish an independent body to enforce that mandate: the New York City Commission on Racial Equity (CORE).
As such, we strongly urge the Mamdani administration to release the legally mandated New York City Racial Equity Plan, as required by the City Charter, to guide this year’s budget towards achieving racial justice.
These principles are foundational to repairing the history of harm towards our communities of color and to building a city that is fair and accountable to all New Yorkers.

NYU Langone: shame on you for bending the knee to the Trump Administration and closing the Transgender Youth Health Program. It is a disturbing violation of the Hippocratic Oath (First, Do No Harm) to cancel care that is proven to save lives. All major medical associations agree: gender affirming care is lifesaving healthcare that improves the physical health, mental health, and wellbeing of transgender youth. Removing access to gender affirming care leads to higher rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide attempts among transgender youth.
