I commend Mayor Mamdani for delivering this huge win for working families in our district! πŸ™ŒπŸ½

I'm proud that our very own Community School District 23, serving Canarsie, Brownsville, and Ocean Hill, will be among the first to receive free 2K seats this fall.

This morning, I chaired my first hearing as Chair of the Committee on Civil and Human Rights focused on budgeting for equity.

It remains unclear and unlikely that the FY27 budget will be informed by the Racial Equity Plans, as required by our city's charter.

While we are aligned with the stated long-term goals of the current administration, we urge the Mamdani administration to honor the law and release the long overdue racial equity plan to guide the FY27 budgeting process.”

Since then the Eric Adams administration failed to prioritize and produce this Racial Equity Plan, resulting in a now years-long delay.

In 2022, hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers overwhelmingly voted to amend the Charter to require racial equity plans across city government and to establish an independent body to enforce that mandate: the New York City Commission on Racial Equity (CORE).

As such, we strongly urge the Mamdani administration to release the legally mandated New York City Racial Equity Plan, as required by the City Charter, to guide this year’s budget towards achieving racial justice.

These principles are foundational to repairing the history of harm towards our communities of color and to building a city that is fair and accountable to all New Yorkers.

β€œThe New York City Council Progressive Caucus has long been committed to a just budget, one that works towards robust investments in working class communities, social justice, and racial equity.

ICYMI: my bill, LL 145, is now in effect!

Over 4M workers now have 32 new hours of protected time off to care for themselves & loved ones.

No one should choose between family and their job. That’s not the city we believe in.

This is what dignity for working people looks like.

Universal child care isn’t just a promise, it’s a path.

On March 2 at 10AM, the NYC Council’s Subcommittee on Early Childhood Education is holding an oversight hearing on the path to Universal Child Care β€” and we need to hear from parents, providers, educators, and advocates.

NYU Langone: shame on you for bending the knee to the Trump Administration and closing the Transgender Youth Health Program. It is a disturbing violation of the Hippocratic Oath (First, Do No Harm) to cancel care that is proven to save lives.Β

All major medical associations agree: gender affirming care is lifesaving healthcare that improves the physical health, mental health, and wellbeing of transgender youth.Β

Removing access to gender affirming care leads to higher rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide attempts among transgender youth.Β

This fight was a really tough and long one, well over a decade in the making. But over 20,000 new permits is such a big win.

To @streetvendorproj.bsky.social, @cmpisanchez.bsky.social, and @nycprogressives.bsky.social: thank you for your work.

πŸ™ to @haidee.bsky.social for covering the celebration.

Every NYer deserves a safe place to live.

In District 14, thousands of us are living in apartments with substandard conditionsβ€”including no heat or hot water during winter, mold, leaks, verminβ€”undignified conditions.

That’s why, I'm re-introducing the SAFER Homes Act. (1/3)

Zohran's rightly been getting praise for recent executive actions, but FYI the @nycprogressives.bsky.social notched even bigger victories last week.

Read @amirkhafagy.bsky.social's piece to learn about 3 truly historic wins: one each for app-based drivers, street vendors, + private security guards.

The 2026 NYC Council Progressive Caucus has more members than last year, more alignment with the new mayor, and now new leadership to maintain the greater internal coherence the caucus has attained within the past several years. It's going be a good, productive year for the Left in the NYC Council.
