Q: "Can you give us an idea of what unconditional surrender looks like?"
Trump: "It's where they cry uncle. Or when they can't fight any longer and there's nobody around to cry uncle β that could happen too."

The national suicide being committed by the Republican-led United States has no historical precedent. Centuries from now (if humanity survives that long), historians will struggle to explain how such a thing was possible.
This is pretty alarming.
WH official: βWe want to seize all the oil from Iran. The long-term benefit is getting massive oil reserves out of the hands of terrorists.β
Trump: "βThis is an excursion. We figured oil prices would go up, which they will. They'll also come down."

There are a lot of posts out there with the close-up visual of Markwayne Mullin on January 6, but this is a better perspective.
Heβs not protecting others; heβs protecting himself and hiding. You can see plenty of people at the entry door, ready to take on the insurrectionists, but not Markwayne.

In just six days, the Trump administration has advanced at least 10 different rationales for the war in Iran, Marie-Rose Sheinerman and Isabel Ruehl report:
"The choices are Susan Collinsβwho is supporting and funding the terrorizing of brown people in her state. And I guess this is what I just keep coming back to on Platner... is if you show me that he wants to do something like that, then I'm against him."
Tim Miller on Graham Platner.
Iran retaliated with missile and drone bombardments against U.S. bases and allied territory, targeting military facilities across the Gulf, including Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. One Iranian drone killed six American service members at a U.S. command center in Kuwait. Asked whether Americans should be worried about retaliatory attacks at home, Trump acknowledges the possibility. βI guess,β he says. βBut I think theyβre worried about that all the time. We think about it all the time. We plan for it. But yeah, you know, we expect some things. Like I said, some people will die. When you go to war, some people will die."
Donald Trumpβs White House is blocking top US intelligence agencies from warning law enforcement across the country about rising threats to the homeland tied to his war with Iran, the Daily Mail can reveal. The FBI, Homeland Security, and the National Counterterrorism Center were preparing to put out a joint intelligence statement on Friday to state and local authorities alerting them of a heightened threat due to the ongoing war in Iran, a senior DHS official said. The bulletin, which was reviewed by the Daily Mail, details 'elevated threats by the government of Iran to US military and government personnel and facilities, Jewish and Israeli institutions and their perceived supporters, and Iranian dissidents and other anti-regime activists in the United States.' 'Radicalized individuals with a variety of ideological backgrounds also may see this conflict or other geopolitical events as a justification for violence,' the report continues. The five-page bulletin blocked by the White House provides specific details on how Iranian proxies may carry out attacks across the country. One section explains how local law enforcement can respond to this type of violence. The official title is 'A Public Safety Awareness Report: Elevated threat in the United States during US-Iran conflict'. Homeland Security broke protocol and gave the White House a heads-up about the nationwide bulletin hours before it was set to be released. Top Trump officials ordered it placed on βholdβ. The White House did not deny blocking the terror bulletin in a statement to the Daily Mail.
Time: Asked if Americans should be worried abt attacks at home: I guess.
Daily Mail: The White House blocked release of FBI/NCTC warning of elevated risks.

But at a time when arts funding and support are so imperiled, it would be nice not to lead with your contempt for wide swaths of the arts during your campaign to have your own art recognized.
The killing of Iranian children during an illegal war is an impeachable offense (not to mention a grave crime) and Congress should really act like it.
15 Republicans in the Senate could end this nightmare before it somehow gets even worse.

Iβve spent years, decades, obsessing over the Bush Administrationβs Iraq WMD lies, writing about them, debunking them.
I can think of no lie about Iraq WMDs told by Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld et al that comes even close to the enormity and absurdity of this lie from Donald Trump.

NEW: Believe it or not, itβs that time of year: the Wisconsin Supreme Court election is next month.
Liberals have a huge opportunity: if they win, they can lock down the majority of this court thru 2030.
That means theyβd have it in the next presidential race, a big democracy guardrail.
