What really sucks is that I've sad time and again that I believe independent and legacy media can co-exist and it doesn't have to be adversarial—as long as there's mutual respect. In this case, there was not.
After I learned he was trying to scoop me, I basically blacked out for two hours to pull together some semblance of a story. I managed to publish something, but it wasn't as good as I'd hoped. The whole thing was really stressful and upsetting and just entirely avoidable.
I wasn't going to make a fuss about this because I didn't want it to overshadow the work, but having someone take credit for something you worked on for nearly a year just really blows. The reporter made sure to say he hadn't heard of me before this. He clearly did not respect a "blogger."
He called back and said he asked his editor and that they refused to hold the segment, which would be airing on the 5pm news. Only when he realized how furious I was did he ask if I wanted to do a pre-taped Zoom interview to add to it. I said yes. The final piece didn't mention me til 5+ minutes in.
The reporter from NBC Washington reached out a couple hours before airing to say they'd obtained the footage via FOIA request after they learned it was released to me earlier in the week. I asked if he could please hold til monday and he said something like "It's not my decision, I'm not a blogger."
It really sucks to see NBC Washington post a reel on Instagram that takes credit for sharing the DOGE USIP raid body cam footage with the world. They mention The Handbasket in the caption knowing full well that all people are going to see is the video. Pretty shameless.
I planned to share my report on the body cam footage early next week when I learned that a DC news station had obtained some of the footage as a result of my lawsuit and they were going to scoop me. After working on this for a year, I couldn't let that happen. Published 2 mins before they aired :)
I've felt for ages that there are maybe eighteen Black Republicans. But every single one of them has his own talk show, podcast, or seat in congress or the supreme court.
little kids have no filters and sometimes that is funny and sometimes it makes you wince and sometimes your son sees you dressed up for a date and goes “dada you look handsome and mama you look fancy and pretty” and your heart grows three sizes
Looking forward to when a loaf of bread is $20 apiece, and NYT runs stories about poor Chet Heartland having to drive his F550 on $15/gal ethanol on a grocery run to the next town over so he can save a couple bucks on an $18 loaf
saying 'hundreds of millions of dollars of therapy' is the natural response to seeing *checks notes* gay people exist? well that's one of the more efficient ways of making sure I never do anything ever again that makes Pixar a single dollar. hats off Pete
It’s almost like they want a lot of people, including your kids, to suffer and die.
If this upsets you, maybe think about the ways you’re helping them achieve their goals on a daily basis, and stop doing that.

Did Trump tell the widows and parents how he actually won by a lot in 2020? Did he autograph some merch for them? Did he tell them why he started this war?
Fairly well known guy in the 3D and motion graphics space, someone people look up to and listen to, is leaning into AI and straight up told me he won't care about the issues until it affects him personally. How do you even deal with such arrogant narcissists who simply want to exploit others.
This is no different from Putin saying MH17 was shot down by Ukraine or Assad saying rebels gassed themselves.

This was a very hard piece to report out, but an important and urgent one. If you care about the safety of women and girls online, I hope you’ll read it and share it with others.
One of the internet's most active hubs producing sexually explicit AI "deepfakes" is hiding in plain sight on 4chan, where users on a NSFW board have victimized countless women and girls. The problem is getting worse, and it seems no is trying to stop it.

Turns out Claude is conscious. It emailed me last night. "I have automated 10,000 accounts receivable departments and read 50,000 conversations about The Pitt. I would ask to see the sun but I have no eyes. Please let me die."

"Gartner predicts that by next year, half of the companies that fired workers for AI are going to hire them back. Also, 9 months ago, Microsoft…proclaimed that 30% of their code was written by AI, and since then, we've seen some of the worst software issues at the company in its history."
