If you've never heard the opening dialogue for the GBA version of Tales of Phantasia, it's high time you did.

If there's a Porcupo in this somewhere it's an instant five stars.
Well, time for my brain to split between "This will be yet another blandly safe Illumination movie" and "Whoa whoa WHOA it has the NINJIS and WART?!"
I am always amused by the difference here between Archie's speaking voice and his singing voice.
Sugar, Sugar was the number one single of 1969 in the U.S., which is a good fact to bring up when Baby Boomers claim that they grew up with better music than you did.

Yeah, there were several toy lines from that period (Centurions, Inhumanoids) where all of the toys were larger than the standard and a little more expensive, beyond what the average kid could get with their allowance or by nagging mom and dad.
I'm caught in a crossfire
That I don't understand
But there's one thing I know for sure
Girl, I don't give a damn
For the same old played out scenes
Baby, I don't give a damn
For Quick Man's laser beams
Guts Man
Light's out tonight
Trouble in the heartland
Got a head-on collision

Cacoma Knight has the most heart-string tugging "continue?" screen ;w;
This article aptly captures the real state of Japanese game dev right now. For years, companies have prioritized outsourcing/contract hires because of fewer legal obligations. But as this piece describes, it also lets them skirt around layoff laws by ceasing to contract that external work at all.
It'll be a nice day if it doesn't rain.
now seems like a fantastic time to mention that while all of the dmca shit was going down, someone put out a fully playable english translation of cookie's bustle! even runs on modern windows (as long as you install quicktime v6.5.2, which is not what the game comes with)! cookies-bustle.net
Cookie's Bustle is free! Well, free from some weirdo who tried to get every trace of the game yanked off the Internet.
Please nominate my short stories "Someone Get That Omelas Kid a Happy Meal" and "Why Tales From Earthsea Is The Best Ghibli Film And Also Superior To The Books."
The Death Generator rules and doesn't use AI junk! Let's help out its creator!
A heads up that the Polygon article (and others in Japanese) about the horrible case coming out of Shogakukan is full of bad information, like conflating a civil and criminal case.
I'm sure this will cause zero issues when talking about the situation moving forward.
This apparently never got a DVD release in North America. I recall hearing that there were quibbles over the home video rights.
The theatrical poster for Sky Blue.
What's a movie you like LESS every time you watch it?
For me, there's Sky Blue/Wonderful Days, an eco-punk Korean animated film from 2003.
First viewing: Eh, not exactly good, but kinda fun to watch.
Second: Ugh, this is dull.
Third: Turned it off after twenty minutes.
Book: A good joke is universally understood.
Me: What if Armored Trooper Votoms was directed by COLEMAN FRANCIS?
Kratos doesn't want to talk about it because he knows that once he gets going he'll rant for the better part of an hour about how awful it was that the game didn't have anyone from Crime Crackers.
And by βnot enough pushback,β we mean that Nobuhiro Watsuki has been selected by Shueisha to be a judge for the 2026 Tezuka Awards!
There has been a lot of response over the past few days since the Shogakukan coverup story came out. The manga for Frieren: Beyond Journeyβs End has been removed from Manga ONE, as have all works by Rumiko Takahashi (Inuyasha, Ranma 1/2, Urusei Yatsura, etc.) www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2026-02...
Fuuuuuuuck the editors that care more about numbers than the safety of young people. This is monstrous and inexcusable.
They should have added Gordon Freeman and Starcraft: Ghost's Nova while they were at it.
Remember when Sony made a crossover fighter called PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and a bunch of the characters were from other companies anyway but Kat from Gravity Rush, a SONY SERIES, was just DLC?
Since I was talking about anime from the 2000s, here's what I recently wrote about Tailenders, a cool little short from that same era! It's about going fast! I like it! And its website is still up, so it's not as obscure as it could be!

I say this as a professional who came up from fan translation and has friends at Sega who will likely never get to work on this officially: when you fan translate ANYTHING that was previously untranslated, you have a deep, heavy responsibility in setting people's first and typically only impression.
