Worked at RHS Wisley, now retired and a happy and proud volunteer there. Passionate about Wisley, plants and gardens. Also a quilter, embroiderer and beader. Proud to be Woke. 'Woke just means you give a damn about other people’ Jane Fonda 2025

And if you have an appetite for more slightly outside London but easy to get to on public transport, RHSWisley.
Wisley is too!
How wonderful to see in the middle of London!
It’s already out, two weeks early. Come soon or you will miss it!
You would be very welcome to join the Purple People! Maybe when time travel is invented…………..
A classic English rose, fully double in shades of pink.
🌱 #roseWednesday
I’m still trying to focus on small beauties and happy memories like this rose.
This morning I shall be doing a tour @RHSWisley for some of the Kew tour guides and next week they will do the same for us at Kew. Exciting!
It is more like M&S
So full of character!
A bright orange shopping bags decorated with two intertwining hearts filled in with buttons and beads.
Phew!!! Finally finished a project I started over ten years ago. I used to travel to South Africa regularly and bought shopping bags from Woolworths to decorate because they came in gorgeous colours. This is one of the last bags I bought. #beadsandbuttons #embroidery
On a chilly February morning, a group of people are looking at a young tree. They all have their backs to the camera and are wearing purple jackets. The sky is a clear blue.
🌱 #thicktrunkTuesday and another Tour Guide training session with Jonathan. This was us last month being introduced to a young tree which will eventually have a thick trunk! The volunteer uniform is purple so I call us the “Purple People” and I am very proud to be one of them.
I am so sorry to hear that. His adventures brightened my days.
I’m waiting to hear from my pruner about a date (big shrubs need cutting back) so will let you know.
Enjoy your Wisley visit.
Beautiful pure white, cup shaped flowers on bare branches of a Magnolia tree. The sky behind is clear blue.
🌱 #BlueskyMonday
It’s Magnolia season and the flowers look stunning against the blue sky we saw last week. Sadly it doesn’t look like we will see much this week! Still the flowers will be there.
Bright yellow flowers in a cluster against leaves with raggedy edges.
🌱 #SundayYellow
Beautiful Mizuna flowers in Wisley’s Hilltop World Food Garden last Sunday. I wonder what I will discover when volunteering today?
A collage of six pictures from my tiny garden this week. The large picture on the left shows a ladybird on a leaf in sunshine. The two small pictures on the top are blue Anemone blends and green flowers of Smyrnium olusatrum or Alexanders. The small pictures on the bottom are a tulip open in the sunshine and closed when it is cloudy and a white Primula. The large picture on the right is a blue Hyacinth.
🌱 #sixonSaturday from my tiny garden. The wonderful sunshine this week has made a real difference in the garden ad it is so lovely to see all the colour.
Bright pink flowers if Prunus Kursar, an early flowering variety.
🌱 #flowersonFriday
It’s the beginning of Cherry Blossom season and the gorgeous, sun filled recent days have spurred on their flowering. Not much sun forecast for today sadly. I have a busy day ahead, travelling to Brighton to meet friends and celebrate a life sadly cut short.
A pure white crocus viewed from above. In the middle are orange stamens and perched on top of them is a tiny black beetle
🌱 #insectThursday
A beautiful Crocus with the tiniest critter which I think might be a pollen beetle.
I am off to Wisley for a staff and volunteer update from the DG. Then because the sun is shining a long walk to forget about the world!
Excellent! The weather was kind too!
Absolutely beautiful!
A perfect red rose.
🌱 #roseWednesday
As the news continues to dismay and depress, I will continue to post things of wonder and beauty. Wisley, my tiny garden, stitching, friends and family have become my world.
#BirdoftheDay #SideView
Two of the Wisley ducks posing beautifully.
Bare, pendulous branches making a filigree pattern against blue sky.
🌱 #thicktrunkTuesday
Isn’t this tree beautiful? It is in Wisley’s Arboretum and is a Betula pendula Youngii. I really like the patterns of the bare branches.
Yesterday’s sunshine was definitely mood enhancing.
I will be thinking about you and hope it all goes as smoothly as mine did.
Haggerston school in Hackney. Building designed by Goldfinger and is a grade 2 listed. The collage of photos show the outside of the four story building, the original tannoy system, the view from the roof showing all the new London buildings and a menu from the canteen. It wasn’t like that when I taught there from 1969 to 1974
It was amazing but I recognised very little. The building is now Grade 2 listed so nothing can really be done to it. Thank you for asking.
I did mine today in glorious sunshine.
Cardamine quinquefolia or Cuckoo flower with cut leaves and delicate pink flowers.
I have my copy and this morning celebrated a new find in my back garden.
Lovely to see you! Sorry I didn’t instantly recognise you. I will next time!
