I need everyone to brace themselves for the fallout of this, which is going to be dems embracing Anthropic as a #resistance corporation, and likely Open AI as well.

they're already shoving this shit down our throats, now they'll try and claim its to "own" trump.

Don't fall for the bs that we can't hold our gov accountable for their crimes because there's too many involved and will collapse the system, when they're out here criminalizing 20,000+ trans people in a single state because of something that boils down to a clerical error.

Not lost on me that a piece ostensibly about rising antisemitism in the Democratic Party focuses almost entirely on Zohran Mamdani, Uncommitted, AOC and Mejia and not, like, the guy with the Nazi tattoo.

This is exactly right. The Onion quietly left Twitter a month ago and... our weekly subscribers went up. It's because we're doing well here, on Instagram and on YouTube.

As a business, being on Twitter is somewhere between useless or detrimental, unless you're selling boner pills.

Further complicating any final decision on military strikes, Arab leaders have been calling counterparts in Washington to complain about comments from Mike Huckabee, the U.S. ambassador to Israel. In an interview with Tucker Carlson, the conservative commentator, that aired on Friday, Mr. Huckabee said Israel had a right to much of the Middle East, outraging Arab diplomats in countries that the United States is hoping will support, or at least not openly oppose, an American attack on Iran.

New York Times reporting implies that Ambassador Mike Huckabee's endorsement of Greater Israel (which would encompass the territory of Jordan, Syria, much of Lebanon, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, in addition to all of historic as well as the occupied Palestinian territories) has complicated prep for war

You cannot ethically do this @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social β€” not even after 7 days, not even with Dept of Homeless Services leading instead of the NYPD. There is no ethical way to harass and steal from people who have been so failed by society. The only ethical thing you can do is to give them a home.

Feed algorithms are widely suspected to influence political attitudes. However, previous evidence from switching off the algorithm on Meta platforms found no political effects'. Here we present results from a 2023 field experiment on Elon Musk's platform X shedding light on this puzzle. We assigned active US-based users randomly to either an algorithmic or a chronological feed for 7 weeks, measuring political attitudes and online behaviour. Switching from a chronological to an algorithmic feed increased engagement and shifted political opinion towards more conservative positions, particularly regarding policy priorities, perceptions of criminal investigations into Donald Trump and views on the war in Ukraine. In contrast, switching from the algorithmic to the chronological feed had no comparable effects.
Neither switching the algorithm on nor switching it off significantly affected affective polarization or self-reported partisanship. To investigate the mechanism, we analysed users' feed content and behaviour. We found that the algorithm promotes conservative content and demotes posts by traditional media. Exposure to algorithmic content leads users to follow conservative political activist accounts, which they continue to follow even after switching off the algorithm, helping explain the asymmetry in effects. These results suggest that initial exposure to X's algorithm has persistent effects on users' current political attitudes and account-following behaviour, even in the absence of a detectable effect on partisanship.

A new paper shows that less than 2 months of exposure to Twitter’s algorithmic feed significantly shifts people’s political views to the right.

Moving from chronological feed to the algorithmic feed also increases engagement.

This is one of the most concerning papers I’ve read in awhile.

CUSTOMER SINCE

To be loved despite having bad skin
sometimes, and bad thoughts
a lot. To be the queen of lottery tickets
and mergansers and snow.

The ancient magnolias, standing
at the back of the live show
with no recording device
besides themselves, flirt

like dandelions.
It is a steady, brutal mixture of fog and life
that keeps philosophy going, the fire outside
its little tent in a glade

not made for shadow play, not enough
direct sun. I peel the star off
my face; the pimple that was underneath

is almost invisible, now. It’s spring.
