You may have already done this and I just read the plan incorrectly, but if you can, try to keep pollinator plants back a bit from the road. Poor bees and butterflies can get smooshed! 🚗

What’s a good source for wildflower meadow maintenance? My city mows all our meadows in the winter—when wildlife need it most. I want to put together info on why that’s not the best plan. But the sources I’ve found are conflicting… #nativeplants #pollinators

Moths also play a big role but we don’t usually see them as they’re out at night!

I wouldn’t try to separate out the tiny seedlings if they’re too close together. You’ll damage their roots. Depending on the plant, they should be OK as clumps. If they need more space, it’s good to choose the seedling that has the most leaves to keep and clip off the stem of the other one.

That is a great idea!! Native plants are always best for wildlife!

A pic I took of a pretty yellow daisy being pollinated by a Thick-legged Flower beetle. The daisy has a flat flower, which means the beetle can reach its food because it only has short mouth parts.

How big should I wait for my #nativeplants seedlings to get before I plant them around my neighborhood?

I think Monsanto makes it so the seeds the corn produces are sterile =(

Have you tried fermenting the seeds first? Tomato seeds don’t sprout without a little fermentation because otherwise they’d grow right out of the tomato on the vine! It’s a little tricky but you can get it with some trial and error.

Ah! It’s probably easier to do raised beds if you’re OK with the initial cost. Make sure they’re made of untreated cedar!

Looks beautiful! If you can, wait to prune until a couple weeks after the last frost. That way all the insects living in the plant stems and debris will be ready to leave!

I’m having neighbors and families over and asked for suggestions. While a fun activity for consenting adults, it is not appropriate for a large group of people that includes children. I think we can agree on that.

Do you have a specific canning recipe book? I’ve only really done pickles.
