I was really pleased to be asked to include paintings in the Albany Galleries ‘Spring Awakening’ exhibition, I loved working towards it and especially enjoyed doing this larger painting of a daffodil farm near Solva. I found this field on my trip to Pembrokeshire last March on a sunny hazy Spring day.

The exhibition opens next Friday.

Perfect for Spring!

I’ve been busy in the studio over the last few days framing new paintings to deliver to Pembrokeshire.
This colourful painting of the Parrog is destined for Workshop Wales near Fishguard, and I’m looking forward to painting in the area after dropping them off.

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus

I’ll be spending the day painting daffodils, I’ve also been learning a little bit of Welsh everyday for the last two months which has been challenging but fulfilling so I’m looking forward to today’s lesson.

I’m popping to Ardent Gallery in Brecon tomorrow to drop off paintings for their Woman’s Day Exhibition, including these two new paintings of Pen y Fan have a lovely spring feel.
I’m hoping to do some plein air painting as well if the weather cooperates 😏

Tenby through the Dune Grass

Inspired by an evening walk up onto Giltar Head on a breezy summer evening last year. Sat off the sandy path looking at Tenby and South Beach.

I really enjoyed painting this one of the industrial units at the bottom of the valley at Brynithel and Llanhilleth last week. The sun was highlighting the warm tones of the branches on the trees.

A couple of weeks ago I visited @workersgallery near Porth, I also took the opportunity to paint at Trehafod, it was very murky with heavy rain so I had to find a close-up view. So these winding gears were perfect, I treated it as a quick sketch and not get to engulfed in the detail.

The Eight Arch Bridge, Bosherston Pembrokeshire.

This one is from a lovely walk last summer, Stackpole to Bosherston via Barafundle and Broadhaven. It’s definitely one of my favourite walks. You can only see seven of the eight arches from this angle.

Painted en plein air in October from one of my absolute favourite spots to spend a day painting in the company of sheep.

I won!

I received the fantastic news yesterday that my painting of Solva won the British Contemporary Art Award and I’m absolutely thrilled and it certainly brightened up a dreary day in January.

Thank you to everyone who voted for my painting to get through to the final jury stage.

A day of torrential rain and my car in the garage means a day at home painting tulips.

Really love the reaching droop of these tulips that bought from ivyandrose_florist in Abergavenny yesterday

Last week I took advantage of the frozen temperatures and snow, I headed to Keepers Pond on the Blorenge, there had been snow earlier in the week which had thawed quite a lot but the pond was frozen. It was a colourful view, tricky to show the ice on the pond but an enjoyable painting session anyway

I haven’t managed to photograph this one particularly well yet, I’ll give it another go in better light.

Snow! Just enough for a good covering but not enough to get stuck indoors.

So this morning I headed up the Blorenge to paint the snow covered hills, they were a little less snow covered than I would have liked but it was a nice challenge painting the mix of snow, frost and thaw.
