Orrin, often called the father of Black comic books, was on a missionβhe wanted to give Black readers heroes that actually represented them, not the harmful stereotypes like Ebony White or Whitewash Jones (yep, that was actually a Captain America sidekick).
Did you know that back in 1947, a journalist named Orrin C. Evans and his brother, George J. Evans Jr., made history by launching All Negro Comics Inc. in Philadelphia? It was the first Black-owned comic book publishing company in the U.S.!
