In Oregon, February marks the beginning of earthquake and tsunami awareness month. Happy earthquake and tsunami awareness month from the Cascadia CoPes Hub!
Calling all researchers!
Join us next Thursday (2/5) at 9 a.m. PST for a seminar titled "Science-based coastal management: examples from Washingtonβs Applied Coastal Research and Engineering team."
Click on the link below to register!
This award recognizes an academic who has made significant contributions to advancing the communityβs understanding of coastal science or engineering, while also fostering and mentoring the next generation of coastal scientists or engineers.
Bravo, and well deserved! π
Congratulations are in order!
Hub co-director, Dr. Peter Ruggiero, was named
the 2025 American Shore and Beach
Preservation Association Robert G.
Dean Coastal Academic Award Winner.
Happy New Year, Researchers!π₯³
Join us this Thursday, January 8th, at 9:00 am PST for our seminar series with speaker Dr. Katharine J. Mach, titled "Increasing preparedness for intensifying climate change."

Be on the lookout for flooding this week! π
An atmospheric river moves into the Northwestern United States, carrying massive amounts of water vapor. The PNW will experience heavy rainfall, likely leading to flooding. If youβve come across a flood, be sure to report it here: bit.ly/4iP1s5j
Check out the UW Dean's Forum on coastal hazard preparedness interviewing Hub members Ann Bostrom, Jenna Tilt, and partner Maximilian Dixon! www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHoM... @maximiliandixon.bsky.social
No impacts to the U.S.!
Hey researchers! Click the link to join us this Thursday (12/4) for a virtual seminar:
Increased flood exposure in the Pacific Northwest following earthquake-driven subsidence and sea-level rise.
Speaker: Dr. Tina Dura
Interested in coastal hazards? The hub is opening up registration for our "Navigating Coastal Hazards 3 Workshop."
Join us in Astoria this February to collaborate, brainstorm, and strengthen resilience across Cascadia!

Join us tomorrow from 9:00 am - 10:00 am (PST) for a seminar on the latest tsunami research updates -- because tsunamis don't give warnings, but we do!
Click the link to register and learn more!
New research from the Cascadia CoPes Hub shows that the shallow megathrust off the Pacific Northwest is mostly locked - a sign that a powerful offshore quake could rupture near the seafloor, increasing tsunami risk.
Check out the research here on our website!
