Ah thanks so much. I am ok. I only bring that up to show others a side of things which some college students are dealing with which they might not know about. Knowledge is power!

I teach at a small private liberal arts college. Beautiful leafy campus. Tight knit community. Outstanding education at $60K per year.
I have many students who live off-campus and only eat because they work at fast food joints. I keep soup, ramen packets, pb crackers, and snacks in my office π
With the funding lapse looming, I just went ahead and sent out messages through our course management system that included a schedule for campus area food banks to all students in my courses this semester.
Yup! I do not qualify for a food plan since I live off campus and I have no where to store cold items & finding microwaves on campus can be hard. It makes it really hard for students like to me eat during the 12 hours I am on campus
Even in normal times I have had the financial privilege to bring snacks to my 3hr lectures/labs and it makes a difference with student participation, engagement and lets them know in a small way I care about them. Worth it to me. Not something everyone can afford to do (As an adjunct I understand).
This is amazing! I'm always glad to see this sorts of resources, although I do worry that since they exist in some capacity ppl think the need has been addressed. But often things like this cannot meet the needs of Disabled students (like food allergies, diabetes, etc) which is why we need SNAP!
But that was also in 2001. Fast food had a dollar menu and people often paid in cash so it was possible to find a few dollars in change in couches & the cracks in drive thru's. Now no one has cash & even McD is unaffordable. Being poor is a lot harder now.
A hot drink vending machine from the 1980 to 1990's. It will dispense coffee, tea and chicken broth
When I was 19 I was living in my car in the campus parking lot. I lived off the change I found in drive thru's and the common room coffee/broth machine. I had just lost my job so I did not qualify for food stamps. I remember crying in their office when I learned that. Being poor in college SUCKS
Professors,
some of your students just lost their access to food. This will put a strain on their ability to pay rent and focus in class. They might need to not pay electric to make ends meet. They might be coming to class hungry.
Please be aware that the loss of SNAP will impact your students
Submitted my first IRB and just refreshing it constantly so I can address any comments immediately. Does this ever get less stressful? π¬
Such a stunning critter!

I know it is annoying when people keep sharing GFM & I hate having to resort to this. Being able to do this poster presentation will help me demonstrate my ability to do research and get accepted to grad school. I am an older student who has fought for 25 yrs to reach this point. Pls help if you can
This is part of the guide that I would be presenting at the National Forage and Grassland Council conference. It is because of Bsky that I was able to create this guide and I am returning to this community to help me reach the goal of presenting the poster!

Hi all! I am a nontraditional undergrad student trying to raise funds to present my 1st poster at a national conference. This will help my grad school applications & (hopefully) help others learn grass morphology! Please donate & share if you are able
I was accepted to present a poster at the National Forage and Grassland Council conference this upcoming Jan in Asheville, NC. Unfortunately, my school does not have travel grants. Please help me with my first national poster presentation by sharing my GFM! #Academia #Purdue

Forever grateful to be part of the agronomy department at Purdue! Everyone here is so kind and supportive and I cannot imagine having gone to school anywhere else
I love this! What are your favorite sites for paper bug kits?

I am not saying that all spaces should be darker and quieter. I know most ppl cannot see at light levels that are comfortable for me. I am just asking that this reality be recognized. It is really hard to exist in the world where everything hurts.
So if you have someone in a situation where they are being psychological tortured & also gaslit about it ("it is not that bright in here") & which you also cannot escape bc "It is unreasonable to expect the world to adapt to your needs" then ya, maybe employment & self efficacy is going to be low π€·ββοΈ
Just saying that sensory bombardment is considered psychological torture. If the work place had super bright lights & really loud sounds, all of ya'll would be stimming & unable to get shit done too. Autistic ppl are often more sensitive to sensory input so "normal" lights/sounds can be painful
Oh yes. I am Autistic and the idea of doing the same thing for years on end makes me very happy, lol. The time I have been in the lab has been so calm and peaceful. The ability to just hyperfocus and get into a flow is wonderful.
Especially in light of papers which talk about advocacy fatigue and the mental harms caused by stress and a high mental load
I just find it interesting that this trait was identified as a cause of unemployment instead of investigating if a hostile environment could cause a reduction in ability
Autistic people are said to have low SE which is partly why we have low employment, but couldn't it be as likely that being forced to exist in spaces that are sensory overwhelming, where our accommodations are not met, & where we are always needing to hide our authentic selves, it causes low SE?
