Sadly on 11 December, Ibrahima Bah was refused permission to appeal against his conviction & was upheld a 9.5yr sentence for manslaughter as the reluctant pilot of an inflatable that sank in the Channel.

Earlier this year, I sat through a trial that never should have happened, and watched as a young asylum seeker was prosecuted for a tragedy dealt by forces far greater than him.
On Wednesday, his legal team will seek permission to appeal -I am hopeful this will be a step towards justice

Justice for Ibrahima Bah, a teenager from Senegal who is imprisoned for 9.5 years, scapegoated after the dinghy he was steering across the Channel broke apart. Read more from the campaign for his release >>>
Ibrahima is one of over 450 people who have been charged with new offences brought in by the British Government in 2022, intended to criminalise people arriving irregularly to the UK. We call for an end to this violent practice both in the UK and across Europe.
We see his imprisonment as typical of a system that seeks to criminalise and punish people on the move and those seeking safety in Britain, especially when they are black and brown.
At trial Ibrahima was clear: he steered the dinghy because he was forced to, and did everything he could to save everybody when the dinghy got into trouble.

He received a sentence of 9.5 years imprisonment.
On 4th December, the Court of Appeal will decide whether to grant permission for Ibrahima's case to be appealed. Join us inside and outside the court as we demand justice and freedom for Ibrahima.
Ibrahima is being scapegoated for violent border policies which prevent people from being able to safely reach the UK. In February, he was found guilty by an all white jury of four counts of manslaughter by gross negligence, and for facilitating the arrival of survivors.
Ibrahima Bah is a teenage asylum seeker from Senegal who is being imprisoned in the UK. In December 2022, he was steering a dinghy that broke apart in the Channel. Very sadly, four people drowned, and five are still 'missing at sea'.
