Not pointless if viewed from the perspective of the USA's adversaries. The parallels with the 19th century national suicide of the Amaxhosa in South Africa are uncanny. Social engineering can be incredibly destructive.

Prasad overruled FDA staff to reject Moderna's flu vaccine application The rejection is the latest instance of Vinay Prasad overruling career FDA scientists to place vaccines under harsher scrutiny.

The flu and pneumonia kill over 45,000 people a year. Moderna developed a new mRNA flu vaccine for people 50 and older--who are most at risk. Prasad, unilaterally, against the recommendation of experts within the agency, denied Moderna's appplication. www.statnews.com/2026/02/11/m...

Just spoke to The Hill about how the dismantling of the NIH is impacting science in America. We still face a cliff of unfathomable heights, w easily 1000+ labs poised to close in the next year due to funding ending. A generation of young scientists lost because there is nowhere for them to train.

Sad, tho, that there's a simply stupid, hard cutoff at age 55. I understand why (health costs etc.) but there are many people way above 55 who have drive, mental agility etc. orders of magnitude greater than people half their age.
