As someone who often deals with similar problems, It can be rough sometimes.
I've found having some kind of visual reminder or otherwise helps (such as a picture on your phone or computer, something nearby that you've tied the idea to for now, etc)

I grabbed an old character i used in dnd years ago, added a lil Verrik from Dragonage and then gave them a nervous energy and we brought it together to be its own thing
