In the spirit of learning how everyday things work: today I learned that the magic behind sliding chalk board panels used in universities is a pulley system with counterweights to support the weight of the boards.
As I’ve progressed along my scientific journey, I’ve implicitly taken more and more responsibility for parsing information closer to the original source of data. In doing so, I hope to build both the literacy and confidence necessary to communicate it to a wider audience.
Up until then, I was largely a consumer of second- and third-hand sources of information when it came to climate science. These downstream sources were more digestible, granted they were also more watered down.
I’ve been interested in sustainability and climate change ever since learning about it in elementary school. Yet, I’ll admit that it was only until today that I finally read an IPCC report, digging through the figures/data myself.
