going though some more 2025 Kyler Murray
going though some more 2025 Kyler Murray
Vikings center Ryan Kelly just announced his retirement. Was always a possibility given his unfortunate concussion issues.
Minnesota now among like a third of the league that needs a center.
Rueben Bain Jr is a great tape vs measurables test. Which do you trust more?

$51.5M dead money in 2028 after they post-June 1 him next offseason
Good for Kam Curl. Was one of the best bargains in the league on the 2/$9M deal he signed in 2024 and could still be that at 3/$36M to come back to the Rams.
Bringing back Curl gives Rams option to keep leaning into dime and moving McDuffie/Lake around the secondary.
Is this bad? It seems bad.

So if this is correct and Moore now has 26, 27, and $15.5M in 28 guaranteed, he'll have more fully guaranteed money on his contract upcoming than when he originally signed his extension with the Bears.
This feels wild and a 0% chance Moore would get $60M fully guaranteed over three years as FA
So OTC has the $15.5M trigger in March for 2027, but this one place I would believe straight-from-the-agent reporting and that is an absolutely wild thing for Buffalo to pick up
The value between Buffalo's second and Chicago's fifth is somewhere around a late-third, early-fourth but the opportunity cost of missing out on that second while taking on all of Moore's deal is quite of an overpay for Buffalo to fix a problem everyone except the GM saw coming last year.
Joe Brady likes what Joe Brady likes.
But Moore is an outside vertical receiver who fills a role the Bills desperately needed in that receiver room. Also enough wiggle to still work in the short area.
Moore has fully guaranteed $23.5M salary in 2026 and $15.5M of 2027 gets guarateed next week
Anger and embarrassment while watching the Rangers feels a little too on the nose
Overall, I'd say outside of 2023 when he came back midseason from his ACL tear, he's been at least an average quarterback.
I'd say the 2024 offense catered more to his skill set while 2025 morphed into more of a Petzing offense that just had Kyler in it
Is Adrian Newey... in his UNC Belichick phase?
We're only a year removed from this with Kyler
Both @danpizzuta.bsky.social and I agree: Kyler Murray on a minimum contract is a hell of a bargain, in part bc his upside remains highβ¦and his floor isnβt as low as itβs been portrayed.

Mentioned this metric with @minakimes.bsky.social on her pod when talking Carnell Tate and Bryce Lance.
Fun piece to put together every year, putting some context around the receivers in their offenses and what that means.
Question though is where the Rams want to play McDuffie. He's been better in the slot throughout his career, but Rams have players there, including Quentin Lake.
Could also just keep leaning into dime, which they did at a significantly higher rate than any other defense in 2025.
And as Mina and I talked about on the pod, how the Rams went about free agency at corner could give us a look at how they use pick 13 and getting McDuffie opens the path for Kenyon Sadiq if they want to go that way
With the quarterback class playing out as it has, the second Rams first-round pick seemed like good bait for a veteran trade and bringing in Trent McDuffie might be as good as that could have gone.
So much NFL news happened just before we recorded. Had a great time diving into that and some Combine/draft class thoughts.
Always an honor to join Mina.
Meanwhile, at The Associated Press:
Giants releasing Bobby Okereke leaves what could be a Sonny Styles sized hole in the middle of the defense
The streak continues
Talked about Murray in depth with @danpizzuta.bsky.social on the pod. But in short: A bunch of teams *should* take a swing hereβ¦and Kyler *should* prefer Minnesota.
I'm sure that's been discussed. But some guys like where they are and we see early extensions in places all the time. I also doubt if Pierce signs a deal soon that it's going to be cheap.
I could also be giving the IND front office way too much credit from this reading.
I'm going to take the Colts transition tagging Daniel Jones and a sign they're closer to an extension with Alec Pierce.
If Colts aren't scared off by another team's offer on transition tag, I'm not sure they would worry about him hitting FA, either.
Think they would have tagged Pierce if needed.
