I’m sorry, but you have misheard what I said. I specifically said it digs into the *modern* darkness of the virtue and said the *story* can be used to *imply* that you should throw your life away. I was not ‘going after’ a person from 291 AD?? I was talking about something that hurts people now.
I don’t think they’re bad! You have confident lines and I see the start of a cute, cartoony style developing! if you’re taking long breaks + destroying your work, that can slow progress. I definitely think the best move is to draw often, and don’t beat yourself up! Good luck my friend!
I genuinely think this is the worst possible way to interpret the message that I want victims of SA to survive. This is not me being dismissive. There is a real connection between tales of virgin martyrs and the mistreatment of SA survivors in religious groups.

everyone does improve at a different pace, though I will say you might be being too hard on yourself! If you’ve been practicing for 16 years I would bet you’ve improved a lot in that time. Sometimes it’s hard to tell because it happens slowly. :)

Of course! :) Scott McCloud’s books are great if your kid is interested in comics! Understanding Comics was really helpful to me. I also really enjoyed the Chris Hart drawing books when I was young, and those are a probably a little more fun for an 8 year old. I hope that helps!
