And no one in the current administration (Trump? Vance? Hegseth? Rubio? Witkoff? Kushner? Gabbard?) remembers or cares about the precedent we created the last time we saved the Shah.

I don't think they actually have a plan for what comes next, but in absence of one they will fall in line behind a restoration of the Pahlavi regime, just because they can't think of (or create) anything better. "Nation building" as a strategic goal is fraught, but this administration won't bother.
Reinstalling the Shah sure doesn’t sound like a clean slate to me. We did that once before, and even if Washington has forgotten about that, I’m sure Iranians haven’t.
