There is a legal provision in immigration law that someone married to a US citizen can stay in the US while there visa is pending. Immigration officials have long recognized it to allow residency during the wait time. The DHS has just stopped following this part of the law.

Clean, literally and figuratively. It's useful to imagine the negative feelings flowing into the things you throw away. The hopes and dreams you can put into things you donate, or into acts of kindness to others. Let those go with love, for yourself. You will have that again, but a bit different.

Make some short and mid-term plans for yourself. Something a few days, a few weeks, and a few months out. Something that isn't just a date on the calendar, but that requires action to attain. Build a skill, take a class, commit effort to others outside yourself. You're awesome, so get more awesome.

As for tactical copes, avoid isolation - it's not safe to stay up in the attic by yourself. We get weird and convince ourselves of things that are not true. Bring a friend who is willing to listen, if you need to be up in the attic of your head. If you have a counselor, use them.

You are coping. Grief is the shadow of love. Grief over loss is as genuine and valid as joy or anger. It deserves and needs to be felt. It will not feel like this forever, or even for long. You will go through the stages of grief, and you may have feelings about those feelings. It's OK.
