A beautiful story about Zia, who migrates from Sri Lanka to Australia with her husband and daughter.
It talks about the grief and loneliness of coming to a new country, away from the support of extended family.
I enjoyed that this is set in Canberra, with lots of familiar locations.

I'm listening to a talk by expert in rhetoric Jennifer Sano-Franchini ( @jsanofranchini.bsky.social ) about refusing generative AI in writing studies.
She shared a resource for refusing genAI that might be helpful for other folks in academia:

This quick novella tells of the meeting of Mei Lin and Shen Leung. I really enjoyed the setting and the set up for Butterfly Swords.

This is set in the same world as A Gentlemanβs Gentleman, but can very much be read as a standalone.
Thank you Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor, and NetGalley for supplying this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
That being said. I loved the other characters. William/Flora was wonderful. And the Lord Byron cameos were fantastic.
I love TJ Alexanderβs writing. The prose is beautiful and we have great cast of queer characters.
I also didnβt like Verbena. She was dealt a rough hand, with terrible parents and was in a difficult situation. Were all her manipulations justified though? And why did William/Flora love her?
I understand William/Floraβs reluctance to communicate their true nature to Verbena. But the lack of communication went on too long.

I didnβt really enjoy this. It had such potential but it felt like it slipped into farce, especially early on in the book.
An interesting book.
It got a bit bogged down in Marxist theory and his later research.
However, I enjoyed the second half of the book which presented possible futures and some small scale examples.

I did feel that Maxβs mixed heritage could have been dug into further to more fully build his character.
Thank you Boldwood Books and NetGalley for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
The main characters were great and there was a strong cast around them. My favourite was Leontina, Allegraβs mother. I was fascinated by her and her history.
I enjoy Emma Orchardβs writing style, and there were certainly flashes of brilliance in A Most Unsuitable Suitor.
This had a slow start and I didnβt get into it until about the 50% mark. At that point it picked up and had lots of twists and turns, which I loved.
Did I choose this book partly because of the passion fruit flowers on the cover? Yes, yes I did! I was a little disappointed they didnβt make an appearance in the story.

I really enjoyed this book about Evelyn and Ahmad.
Beautifully written will lots of detail about dressmaking. I really want to take a look at Ahmadβs creations.
Also, dealing with issues of class and race and the precarious life as a mixed race person in Victorian England.

There is a large cast of characters as this is a cross-over with her previous Westcott series. Thankfully Balogh provides us with an outline of the main characters from previous books and a family tree for reference.
She puts Nicolas and Winifred in a situation where it seems that it will be impossible for them to be together, and yet it is resolved with mature and open conversation.
