Is Claude or ChatGPT better at writing the part of the roadmap that says the last section of the paper will conclude?
How do you increase teacher time-on-task? It depends on the source of the problem! www.cgdev.org/blog/beyond-... Breeding & Bruns lay out the options in this @cgdev.org blog post.
Earlier this month, the @cgdev.org hosted a research workshop on the topic of school-related violence. Here is a round-up of every research paper we saw. www.cgdev.org/blog/what-ar...

Indeed!
*Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die* was remarkably good and funny, and I believe it benefited from the big-screen experience.
Great turns from Haley Lu Richardson and Michael PeΓ±a. Sam Rockwell is consistently good in my opinion.
Congrats to Johns Hopkins on an excellent recruitment!
I've twice recently come across policy-oriented pieces with initialisms in the title.
I think it almost never makes sense, unless you *purposely* want to restrict your audience to the group that uses that initialism so frequently that it's natural.
The other day, a student asked me how to think about whether an intervention that was successful in one place is likely to be successful in another place.
My favorite framework for this is @maryannmb.bsky.social & @rglenner.bsky.social's. What's yours? ssir.org/articles/ent...
Venezuela faces both uncertainty and possibility.
On a recent CGD podcast, Dany Bahar & Liliana Rojas-Suarez join @daveevansphd.bsky.social to discuss how Venezuela reached this point and how it can chart a path back toward stability and growth:

If you're in the Washington, DC area, I highly recommend The Outwin exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery.

(I took my 19-year-old who is a science museum person, not an art museum person, and extracted a "pretty cool" from them.)
I really enjoyed this short film from Park Chan-wook (director of No Other Choice and Oldboy).

Overall, I believe we need better evaluations of more programs. BUT I love this piece by Gugerty & Karlan that provides 10 reasons *NOT* to evaluate (and what to do instead). ssir.org/articles/ent...
Now the film Pulse from 2001 is getting interesting...
Not sure where it's going, but I imagine that pretty soon the CS guy will tell the econ guy you don't need identification with a big enough sample.

I'm looking forward to reading @drodrik.bsky.social's new book!
Review: "Throughout the book, he emphasizes experimentation over grand design and local over nationalβlet alone globalβsolutions." www.imf.org/en/publicati...

Here's my little writing pet peeve: You never need to say "relatively more" or "relatively fewer" because more and fewer are inherently relative.
(Also, while I'm here, reiterating that you can always do better than "It is important to note." Just note it!)
We have great events coming up next week on how to prevent school violence. Join us! www.cgdev.org/event/call-p...

A program to put high school students on the path to becoming teachers resulted in more teachers and in higher wages for students: nudging students who would have earned less (e.g., as instructional aides) into the teaching profession.

We're hiring a research associate and a research intern for a field project on taxation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in gaining hands-on research and work experience in a low-income country in partnership with the local government.
The deadline for the CGD lead conference is *THIS WEEK* - 31st Jan - send us your research and session proposals!
Well, I'm glad someone's using that report! Look, @shelbycarvalho.bsky.social, it's not forgotten!
My younger kids (both older teens) generally are just uninterested in the genre of movies that have that content, so it's mostly a nonissue.
