It's not only Republicans. Many Dems seem to be in politics for the same reasons.
That gets to me too. I became more curious as I aged, but I know so many people who have no curiosity about anything other than their own backyard. That's a large part of why there's no accountability. They buy into the idea of American exceptionalism and can't imagine anything bad happening.
I admit to not knowing very much about those topics. It's only been recently that I've fully realized how indoctrinated we Americans are.
