I talked to @mattduss.bsky.social about dangers of the Iran war and the fecklessness of the bipartisan foreign policy elite that got us here www.thenation.com/podcast/arch...
Lots of conflicting war aims, but one of them, pushed by Netanyahu, is turn Iran into a failed state. www.thenation.com/article/worl...
In a 2nd reflection, @jeetheer.bsky.social turns to a possible endgame scenario by Israel: to transform Iran into a failed state.
Which aligns with the notion put forward in the recent neo-con debate in the U.S. of pushing Iran into ethnic fragmentation.

Excellent exposition of Israel’s likely goal: turn Iran into a failed state, like Libya and Syria.
I own all those books.

Instead of watching Trump lie and ramble for an hour tonight, you should watch, listen, or read the latest Theory of Change episode in which @jeetheer.bsky.social and I discuss how tech oligarchs like Peter Thiel and Elon Musk are literally basing their politics on sci-fi novels.
Trump is hurtling towards a war that could easily be a bigger disaster than the Iraq war. www.thenation.com/article/poli...
Remarkably, writes @jeetheer.bsky.social,Trump seems on the verge of outdoing George W. Bush in reckless, stupid militarism. www.thenation.com/article/poli...

Really found this whole framing of Epstein's ascendance as coinciding with the post-Church Carter-era off-booksing of a segment of the security state (the same moment/impulse that births Bill Barr) worthwhile, Jeet ( w/ @majorityreport.bsky.social @samseder.bsky.social @emmavigeland.bsky.social )
@joshkovensky.bsky.social joined @jeetheer.bsky.social on his Nation podcast to talk about how the Trump administration is using anti-terrorism law to target political groups it doesn’t like.

From Epstein to Bezos, the ruling class is rotten to the core. www.thenation.com/article/soci...
Shouldn't surprise us that Bari Weiss is willing to wage out all out war to keep Peter Attia on the new CBS. As I explained recently, her project is provide a life raft for the Epstein coterie
I don't think he saying tribalism is bad, quite the reverse. He is saying it presents new business opportunities better than what is otherwise available even at zero interest rates.
Agree he was a centrist and opportunist -- I do think if we track his thinking he went from being a 1990s Clinton/Bush globalist to developing (from 2010) into more of a race science, disruption guy. Interesting parallels with Silicon Valley types.
4. The business side of Epstein is a massive vindication of
@naomiaklein.bsky.social's Shock Doctrine (2007) and
@leninology.bsky.social's
more resent Disaster Capitalism.
3. Epstein was a fixer, someone who made money connecting different parts of the elite together. In this case, he was very interested in hooking up Thiel and Barak in project of selling new surveillance tech to autocrat regimes. For this business project, breakdown of global order was good.
2. What Epstein wrote to Thiel in 2016 lines up with what he wrote to his business partner Ehud Barak in 2014: “with civil unrest exploding in ukraine syria, somolia [sic], libya, and the desperation of those in power, isn’t this perfect for you.” Social collapse is a business opportunity.
1. This 2016 exchange between Jeffrey Epstein and Peter Thiel is so essential, really gets to the heart of Epstein's project.
Epstein: brexit, just the beginning.
Thiel: Of what?
Epstein: return to tribalism... finding things on their way to collapse , was much easier than finding the next bargain
From the Epstein files: were Paul Volker and Tom Brokaw really members of a secret society with a "no minorities or women allowed" rule? Brokaw is still around -- worth asking him!
In the first term, Trump did a lot of penny ante grifting, but for his second term he's really figured out how to monetize the presidency into making billions. www.thenation.com/article/poli...

Sexual Predators
That's good. I'm going to borrow that.
8. Weiss's project is creating an Operation Paperclip for Epstein's cronies. Taking a group of discredited men and rehabilitating them as necessary pillars of system. Dershowitz and Peter Attia are the Wernher von Brauns of reactionary centrism.
7. I completely forgot to mention Weiss did a lengthy, friendly interview with one of Epstein's closest friends, Woody Allen.
6. Weiss presents her mission at CBS as restoring trust by elevating centrist voices, which is accurate enough if we understand "centrist voices" to mean "the type of men likely to hang out with Jeffrey Epstein."
