They want to control the interactions between ‘sexes’ more than end violence, so align themselves with the guards and not the vulnerable

This is exactly why any work to end sexual violence needs to be anti-carceral.
The prison is a site of mass sexual violence, implicitly backed by an industrial complex that does not care what happens within those buildings so long as it makes money and their image is protected.

I also get this as someone who studies sexual violence (and is a survivor). To a certain extent you learn to detach yourself a bit from the impact, but it’s never a complete process, especially when it’s graphic things. Sometimes I have to just sit in the middle of reading to pause, like ‘holy shit’

Yeah this is a good point - it's very small numbers of people as a portion of the country which is great, except for some reason our media and political class have decided that they are objectively the most important segment of the electorate and must be appeased at all costs.
