I don't really have a stake in these discussions as a filthy millennial, it's just fascinating to me - I see both sides and their reasons, it's just the separation of thinking is so huge I don't think either fans or artists realize the gap between them

one example is the "fandom cannot thrive without mobile phone footage" disussion re-ghost, or "fandom would thrive so much more with legible, direct, explainable and episodic metaplot" discussion re-gorillaz. I don't think any gen x artist ever could come to these conclusions

listening to both gorillaz and ghost and observing their fandoms for years, it's incredibly interesting to see how gen z fans clash with gen x artists and vice versa. raised in completely different landscapes, with different needs and ways of engaging with art, it's fascinating.
