But it's not just about positions held, it's about enabling everyone to play a full role; which is why we introduced a parental leave policy for councillors and do our best to arrange meetings that take account of caring commitments.

At Chelmsford City Council - not just on #IWD26 but every day - I am extremely proud of my strong team of female colleagues (60% of my Group) who hold many of the leadership positions - the Mayor, Deputy Mayor (both pictured), Mayoress, six of 10 Cabinet members, Group Chair and Group Deputy Chair.

Essex Liberal Democrats Essex Conservatives deeply irresponsible with County Council budget The budget voted on at County Hall today creates a big black hole in the finances for future years, crippling new unitary councils....

At Essex CC I voted against the deeply irresponsible budget from the Conservatives and for improvements proposed by the Lib Dems. Their budget creates a potential black hole deficit of Β£279 million in three years. The Lib Dem plans would have fixed some of that.

The United Kingdom is at its best when we’re true to our values: tolerance, decency, respect for individual freedom and the rule of law.

We can't let Nigel Farage throw that all away by turning Britain into Trump’s America.

Choose a brighter future with the Liberal Democrats.

Enough is enough.

Scrapping the US-pharma deal would free up billions to finally tackle the A&E and social care crisis plaguing our NHS .

It is utterly ridiculous that the Home Secretary wants to reintroduce the power to sack chief constables.

Isn't she busy enough?

No other country is as centralised as Britain - this is just a small example of the utter parochialism of people like Mahmood.

Not sure you should read anything into this, to be honest. Council structures will make limited difference to ANY policy objectives.

I think five will make it easier to deliver integrated services than three or four. But which politicians are in charge will make more difference.
