Dear hivemind: What are you cooking/baking these days that you really love? I have a tendency toward feckless doomscrolling, and cooking has been one thing that helps me refocus toward tangible action. What are you making these days that especially brings you joy, nourishment, peace, etc.?

So pumped to be doing an SCMS roundtable titled βTV and Catastrophe: Revisiting Classical Questionsβ with Kelly Kessler, Aniko Bodroghkozy @anikob.bsky.social, Samantha Janes, and Emily Saidel! #SCMS26 #SCMS2026 #TVstudies #TVhistory
Awesome! Thanks, Catherine!
(They don't need to be super obscure stumpers. These are mostly first-year Film & Television students, so mostly teenagers, and I want them to actually have fun. So a few easier ones and few more challenging ones are good.)
An orange, yellow, and black image requesting good film & TV trivia questions for a new student welcome event.
Crowdsource request: Hey, film & TV savvy people! I'm doing a trivia session during our new student welcome event tomorrow, and I'm still writing the questions. If you've got a good trivia question related to film & TV (or media more broadly), sound off in the replies!

Hello, colleagues! I'm putting together a proposed #SCMS26 panel on Television and Catastrophe. (I know at least one of you has to be working on Chernobyl, right?) Hope you'll consider sending me a topic proposal!

Blargh, typo. At *least* one of you. Reposting, but will keep this one up.

My mom talks about watching THE THORN BIRDS. When I talked to my editor about a miniseries project, the first thing he said was, "Oh! Like THE THORN BIRDS? My mom loved THE THORN BIRDS." Others have told me the same. So now it is time to watch, apparently, everybody's mother's favorite miniseries. π
The time has come. I am finally watching THE THORN BIRDS. Required viewing for research on miniseries, especially surrounding the gendered dimensions of "prestige" TV and book adaptation. Here we go!
I'm having serious FOMO about not applying to Console-ing Passions or the very exciting inaugural Hollywood Conference this year. Ya girl needed a serious break and had to stop herself from applying, but OMG THE FOMO. Hope it's going great, @lucimarz.bsky.social! #HWC2025
I'm rewatching Feud: Bette & Joan, and I forgot how good it is + how many great actors are in it. I haven't made it all the way through Feud: Capote vs. the Swans bc it didn't quite grab me, but this original Bette and Joan season is like the sweet spot in the Ryan Murphy Industrial Complex for me.
Precarious scholar? Are you thinking of submitting to #SCMS2026 but no institutional support for membership? Co-chair, grad rep, or on an SCMS committee? Apply for a 2025/26 SCMS membership fee waiver from the PLO! Deadline August 1st!

Not only are the AI "podcasts" horrendous, having my work put into the mouth of the (male) AI "host," with no differentiation between my words and the idiotic AI-generated interjections (and having the robot stealing my work have the audacity to call me by my first name π‘) is infuriating.
I made the mistake of playing a few because I wanted to retain them as a record. (They are horrid.) But of course buried in a help forum I found the info that the podcast is not generated until you press play. And it's obviously intentionally designed to confuse you into doing exactly what I did.
If you get an email about an Academia[dot]edu AI podcast of your work, you can go to the page & tick the box to opt out in the "feedback," but then it brings you to page full of podcasts of all your work, even things you didn't upload. Don't play them. Fully opt out: www.academia.edu/settings#ai-...
If you're on Academia[dot]edu, heads up that they've started making AI-generated "podcasts" of the work that's uploaded there. It's enabled by default. You have to opt out. Don't play the file. (It believe it's not actually generated until you play it). Just opt out. www.academia.edu/settings#ai-...

Have any of you ever volunteered for Lasagna Love? I'm considering signing up (to cook/deliver) but would love to hear from folks I know who have done it.
