It seems that the depiction from JΓ³lin Koma is the earliest they know of, but we will keep an eye out for others!
What would you consider vintage? I am in the Westfjords with Icelandic family this Christmas and can search their large book collection
Apparently rolos are a classic in Iceland (shockingly)!
Fruit pastilles are a good shout though!
These aren't meant to be 'classic British sweets', or ye olde shope style, otherwise I'd have included bonbons and coldsfoot rock.
This is 'what they had at my local cornershop in Manchester '
A large rectangular cloth reusable advent calendar with pockets numbered up to 24, and three penguins in hats at the top. The sweets are; starbar, sherbert fountain, lion bar, wham, refreshers and vimbo bars, dpuble dip, double decker, swizzles lollies and parma violets, picnic bar, dib dab, rainbow drops, boost bar, jazzies, flump and candy necklace, toffee crisp, white mice, fizz pizza, millions, Dolly mix, freddo and cherry drops
I made my Icelandic partner an advent calendar of the British sweets he hasn't tried yet, what have I missed?
(Stopping at 20th when we go to Iceland)
That's when we got to see these little birds showing off more of their silly behaviour, popping about of the tufts of grass, bashing into each other when they land with beaks full of fish, and picking up dandelions.
I had to crouch like a goblin for an hour with the wind in my eyes, worth it.
A photograph of a man in a raincoat and beanie hat taking a photo of a puffin, who is stood on the edge of a cliff. The sky is grey and the weather looks windy
A photograph of a very high cliff with a grassy top, in beautiful blue sky weather
After watching the puffins at the LΓ‘trabjarg cliffs for a day we camped nearby, and came back in the morning with fresh eyes (and better weather!)
A photograph of a puffin stood among grass and bright yellow dandelions, with one dandelion flower in it's beak. The puffin had a black back, neck and top of its head, white chest and face, and a thick, red and orange triangle shaped beak.
One of my most out of focus puffin shots, but I love it so much

ScienceWrite, a UK scheme for aspiring STEM writers from minoritised backgrounds, is open for 2025 applications!
The 3rd year @romatheengineer.bsky.social & I are running this, with support from @royalsociety.bsky.social & I am SO EXCITED
Deadline 3rd Jan #SciComm π§ͺ

A photograph of a blue tit sat in a snow covered bush. The blue tit has a bright yellow chest with a black line down the middle, a white face with a black line across the eyes and neck, and a blue back and top of the head. It is looking to the left, and only it's face is in focus, with the snowy branches causing focus blurr.
This is one of my favourite photos, a puffed up blue tit in the snow.
Photography in the cold can be a bit challenging, layers and hot tea are essential equipment
Here are my favourite facts from the @gensocuk.bsky.social Medal Talk and Balfour lecture. Of course much more fascinating information was also included!
1) siRNAs cause the triploid block which kills triploid maize progeny, which are bad
2) Alternative approached to getting ancient omics sequencing
New science starter pack for PoC science communicators β¬οΈ
Check it out for some wonderfully talented people, or ask @hanasciart.bsky.social to be added!

A close up photograph of a young arctic fox in its brown summer coat. The fox has a dark brown face and back, light brown neck, and grey inside ears. It is looking to the left and has its mouth slightly open with a small pink tongue sticking out
An adorable Arctic mlem
A photograph of an urban red fox sat on a garden wall at night. The fox is well lit by house security lights, and has a deep orange back and face, white underside, and black legs and ears. It is turned to look to the side of the camera, and has orange eyes
It's peak 'yelling outside of my flat' season for foxes in London, and this guy is giving an absolute belter
I love traveling and learning more about wildlife and natural history, then sharing it with everyone I can (including friends who get monologues about bird behaviour).
I don't take myself too seriously and prefer informal presenting in the hope that more people can feel welcome
A pencil drawing of a fluffy tortoiseshell cat with yellow eyes
A pencil drawing of a mixed breed dog with mostly brown and black coat, white nose and chest. It's mouth is open showing pink tongue, and one ear is flopped to the side
I do animal portraits with coloured pencil, which are a similar style to my photography
A photography of a puffin looking over its shoulder to the left. The puffin had a red beak, white face, and black back and crown of its head
A photograph of a walrus looking face on to the camera. The walrus is a blue-ish purple with pink scars across its front, and has very long white tusks and cream coloured whiskers
A photograph of an Arctic fox cub looking to the left. It has its summer coat, so is a light brown colour with a darker brown face, and brown eyes. It is stood among grey brown rocks
A photograph of a squirrel monkey looking to the right and calling. It has greenish yellow furry and a black crown of its head. It's mouth is open to call, and it's face is fuzzy and very small
I also do wildlife photography, frequently in the UK or Iceland. I like close up portraits that reflect my mood when I took the photograph, here's some of my work!

Lucy and her partner stood in a garden on a sunny day. They are both wearing black, Lucy in a black off the shoulder 50s swing dress with a black parasol, her partner in black jeans and shirt. Lucy has long red and orange hair
A photo of Lucy stood side on to the camera with a bird of prey flying in to land on her gloved hand. Lucy is wearing a white top and has long red hair
Proper introduction time!
I am a science presenter and science events organiser, general gothy vibes, big fan of birds and bones, and passionate about inclusion in science for historically marginalised groups
A close up photograph of a puffin sitting in grass. The grass is yellowy green and blurred out of focus. The puffin is turned to the right and has a white face, red and black beak, and black around its face
New to Bluesky, please enjoy this Puffin photo I took in LΓ‘trabjarg
