That’s not true. But the reason Bobby Fischer no-showed the 1975 world chess championship was it would have required him to do an interview with Chotiner.

Should I learn to play b6 against the Catalan?

The surprising answer is the e8 square, and it turns out it's equal. Black's control of the e4 square (very common in queen's pawn openings) makes up for white's development lead. Black is playing Nfe4 soon, and white will have no better option than playing Bxe7, solving black's problems.

This is basically OK, but it's interesting to note that the top engine move and most popular in the masters database is 11...c5. After 12. dxc5 Nxc5 13. Qe2 a6 14. Rfd1, we have the position I was worried about. White is ahead in development, and where does the queen hide?

QGD at the weekly club game last night. In this structure I want to play ...c5 but I need to make sure I have a good place for my queen. I played 11...Ne4 with the plan of having the Q end up on e7 one way or another.

I agree with the conclusion but the argument that you get better at running by running therefore chess is obviously the same has never made sense to me. For some pursuits, becoming skilled really is done by doing a bunch of studying first. I forgive beginners for thinking chess is one of those.

I’ve had this happen. Clicking on your king and then your rook castles for some reason. You can change it in settings.

There was a football team that went from the worst name in sports (an ethnic slur) to the best name in sports ("Washington Football Team"). Sadly they changed that to something totally forgettable. I don't know if they exist anymore.

The two things I’ve done to prevent knee injuries are 1) Go to a good local running shoe store and talk to someone who can help get the right shoes for you, and 2) Take shorter strides i.e. more steps per minute. 180 is a good target.

Only in housing do people have this expectation that the poorest people must afford the newest, nicest things. It’s true that income inequality is too high but there are good ways to address that, and preventing housing construction is not one of them.

I hate it when they assert something is "becoming increasingly common" without any kind of citation of an earlier time when the thing was actually less common.

I wonder how the baseball card makers of this era thought about the "photograph vs. painting" question.
