A great moment to remind people, from my own roots in the Bluegrass / Mountain Music community:
Sea Shanties are Black Music.
From a thread I posted on Twitter way back when, when The Wellerman was having a moment:
Tapping the "poor areas don't vote for conservatives because they're poor, they're poor because they vote for conservatives" sign
IF Gavin Newsom is on a ballot
THEN me and many others will refuse to vote for him
THEREFORE instead of bitching at me and others like me
YOU should take the *years* you have and make sure that doesn't happen if you actually fucking care
BECAUSE my position is immutable

That ABA had its origins as a conversion therapy for boys who were deemed pathologically "effeminate," and it wasn't until homosexuality was removed from the DSM in the 70s that O. Ivar Lovaas, who is on record as saying Autistic children are not fully human, turned his Skinnerian torture on us.
Let's talk about one of the weirdest applications of uranium glass: Gassiot's Shower.
Don't worry, no nudity is involved (unless you want to get weird with it π).
It's named for English amateur physicist John Peter Gassiot (1797-1877) who did public demonstrations of electrical phenomenon.
Interesting hand signal from Pete Hegseth this morning
A black-and-white photograph shows a group of men standing in front of a small wooden building with a sign reading βHOME BANK OF CANADAβ above the entrance. The building has large front windows and a simple rectangular structure. Several men stand in a row near the doorway while one man sits on the ground in front. They wear early 20th-century clothing such as shirts with suspenders, jackets, and hats. Pieces of wood and debris lie scattered on the ground in the foreground, and open land with a few structures appears in the background.
On Aug. 17, 1923, the 71-branch Home Bank of Canada failed.
Faced with public outcry over constant bank failures, the government acted.
Since 1923, two Canadian banks have failed, while 17,000 have failed in the USA.
This is the story of Home Bank of Canada

There is a legal provision in immigration law that someone married to a US citizen can stay in the US while there visa is pending. Immigration officials have long recognized it to allow residency during the wait time. The DHS has just stopped following this part of the law.
Re-upping my Epstein essay from August as new information emerges today.

Release all the damn files. This is the ultimate test of this nationβs useless partisanship.
Labour is losing voters to progressive parties disproportionately. And they are not mainly "lanyard" professional or working classes, the oppositional forces of Blue Labour and right discourse. It's squeezed millennials in service careers. Which our politics ignores. β’ Demographically, most progressive defectors are frustrated lower middle class Millennials - not affluent urbanites or a PMC 'lanyard class. Though they have liberal social values, many are frustrated graduates; Millennials with a mortgage or rent they are struggling to afford - primary school teachers, IT support or clerical workers. In short, the face of the modern social democratic voter.
Speaking as a lower middle class graduate with an office job and a mortgage, born in the late seventies, I would say: this is half my social circle and most of the people I worked with for years. How in the name of Christ did nobody in politics or media see this coming?

"Maybe changing the world is more like caregiving than it is like war. Too many people still expect it to look like war. I denigrate politicians I donβt respect as windsocks. I just want us to understand that most of the important change is collective."
Call me crazy, but I firmly believe that if all your life, your privileges and physical separation have shielded you from having to consider the needs and wants of people outside your socioΓ«conomic class, you are not going to make a good leader to your people.
Maybe we should talk about it more.
Weβve talked about it too long to stop now.
MANDATORY TIMELINE CLEANSE
Matt Schlapp und Tickle should go back to mauling campaign workers' junk. It's the job he's suited for.
The type of clip you see presented as an evidence at war crime trials.

Honestly watching the Leafs losing those heartbreakers in the playoffs never felt natural anyway. Weβre back to being absolute garbage and worrying about striking out in the draft, right where we belong. Feels good to be back
The second you drive off the Laughton it loses a bunch of its value.
The supposed explosion of the federal public service looks less explosive if you put it in per capita numbers and draw a line graph back to the mid-80s.

AI is not inevitable. Nothing in human societies is inevitable because we design them. Healthcare can be free for the public. Books can be bought instead of bombs. Universities can be free for students, and they can even receive a stipend to live off. Don't let companies dictate the future.
Because UK transphobes have 1 tactic, there've been claims that George's removal from a study is discrimination of his protected belief.
This avoids the ethics issues of failing to disclose bias, or making repeated public statements insulting to potential study participants - who are *children*.
