Being a creative in the UK since the pandemic/Brexit/austerity/austerity 2.0/inflation has felt a bit like, one by one, someone's turning off the floodlights.
& yet, my greatest source of joy has been in continuing.

The correct consensus position is to put wildlife on bank notes, and then prestigious historical figures on wildlife.

Yes please, former university, please arrange my will for me - there's no one better for this job.
Do it in a way where I forget this is you, in effect, trying to defer arranging your own.
Love the attention to detail with the design too. Did your four-year-old do it?

Mother Love Bone - Chloe Dancer / Crown of Thorns
YouTube video by hrco85
I used to hear the older kids playing this & grew into it.
Hearing songs like this, βYes Anastasiaβ & βHello Earthβ was really the start of my obsession with/PhD in song structure & semantics
β¦ & still the one thing Iβll love thinking about forever.

Call me Queen Coincidence.
I lost a specific edition of a book I loved. A friend suggested EBay. Only one was available on the whole internet - on EBay. Why did it arrive with this on it though? Iβd bought it off someone I lost touch withβ¦ who now lives around the corner.

Aaah I'm so touched! That album is one of three (the last track is the one that gets me the most - itβs so happy but they knew it was all ending π). Special music from a special probably-never-again moment in London/UK music.

I really hope so... we seem to be inching towards it... The Erasmus Scheme was reinstated, there's been a bit of political talk, a few petitions. Daily life the UK is very grim now, & although not completely because of it, some former Brexiteers are regretting it.

Dancing on Frith Street
Product Description Previously unreleased live session recorded at Ronnie Scott's in 1990 by Loose Tubes, the innovative big band that brought together many of the leading young jazz musicians of the day. With over 20 members, Loose Tubes was one of the biggest of big bands and it drew on a considerable pool of writing as well as playing talent: particularly from Django Bates, Eddie Parker, Steve Berry and Chris Batchelor. Its music was an exotic blend of jazz, rock and sundry world musics plus a substantial dash of British humour. Founded in 1984 the group was a great concert draw and it released 3 albums, including one produced by Teo Macero, the producer of many of Miles Davis's classic albums. None of these albums have been available for many years so this CD of previously unreleased material will be welcomed by Loose Tubes' many thousands of fans. Personnel: Eddie Parker (flutes), Dai Pritchard (clarinets), Steve Buckley, Iain Ballamy, Mark Lockheart, Julian Nicholas, Ken Stubbs (saxophones), Lance Kelly, Chris Batchelor, Ted Emmett, Paul Edmonds, Noel Langley (trumpets), John Harborne, Steve Day, Paul Taylor, Richard Pywell, Ashley Slater (trombones), Dave Powell (tuba), Django Bates (keyboards), John Parricelli (guitar), Steve Watts (bass), Martin France (drums), Thebi Lipere (percussion) Review (4 stars) Gleefully mixing swing and ska, Dolphy and Zappa...the seven compositions still sound fresh. -- The Times, (John Bungey), October 9, 2010(4 stars) Magnificent...hearing writing this original and stylistically broad played with such verve and excitement is a stone delight. -- Jazzwise, (Duncan Heining), October 2010(5 stars) The 21 tearaways in this fearlessly cutting-edge band, can look back at this scintillating 1990 session with pride. -- Evening Standard, (Jack Massarik), October 1, 2010
Anyone else still amazed when their favourite records aren't streamable? (I secretly love being niche π)
I still get so emotional listening to this; all that energy & joy knowing the Ronnie Scott's residency was their last performance.
