Is there a real explanation why an eviction moratorium and rental assistance are mutually exclusive, or are these folks just making it up? The latter works better combined with the former...

I guess the further-left contingent didn't know how to do a coordinated dropout and endorsement. /end
I didn't finish my DMA, but close enough to vote for her, I guess. I recall getting back in my vehicle after voting (MN switched to presidential primary in 2020) and hearing Klobuchar, who dropped out about two days prior, on the radio in an ad endorsing Biden. /1
That sounds like about the going rate for a Steinway.
I'm not sure what remedies Plaintiffs will have. The Court seems to suggest Bivens, if anything, and I'm not hopeful there. (Not a lawyer.)
What does TACO even look like here? And will we find out from the betting sites first, again?
Who schedules a deposition on July 4? With medmal lawyers? And did counsel do literally any prep of the deponent? It sounded like she didn't even know what encounter led to the allegations. Not a lawyer, but none of this seems right.
...and other activities
Just start the hearing by having her read her book of insults to the committee to get it out of the way, then maybe you can have a substantive question-and-answer session. Maybe.
I thought he didn't even get fined. I missed that he noticed an appeal anyway. What a waste of time.
Which is why an Article III judge and numerous attorneys had to take an entire working day to sort out the USAO's mess. Thanks for the reporting and for fighting the good fight.
Most of my Mastodon feed is duplicated on Bluesky, so I don't look at Mastodon much anymore. Mastodon seemed more relevant when Bluesky was still invite-only. There are a few bot apps on Mastodon that are a little fun but not compelling.
Thanks. I wondered how SCOTUS even had jurisdiction (though my theory bsky.app/profile/andr... didn't hold as to Alito). I still wonder why NY Court of Appeals can't mostly ignore SCOTUS here.
And now we have bsky.app/profile/dani...
Must preserve all the disingenuous arguments for CA8, after all
Does part of SCOTUS think NY Supreme Court is the final state appellate court rather than the trial court? So dumb it's almost plausible.
Bio suggests she would be 70 in 2031, which is when her term ends anyway. The trend has been to retire about a year before the election to let the governor appoint the next "incumbent." Given that we have had our last two redistricting maps drawn by a panel headed by the Chief Justice...
"Her current term as Chief Justice expires in Jan. 2031" so she has a while...

JAGs are getting assigned as Special AUSAs, and one got held in civil contempt in Minnesota this week. Are these assignments literally just so they can't resign like many of the D.Minn. attorneys have done? Do they have any recourse if they don't want the assignment?
I wonder if, to the extent there are federal criminal proceedings here, every defense attorney in D. Minn. is demanding a speedy trial...
I think Jensen is running on the GOP side now too instead of running for governor? The wrong auditor can do great damage; the right one often goes unnoticed (though Blaha did assist with an investigation that resulted in a federal conviction for our now-former township clerk).
If she wins. Her comms have been so tone-deaf I'm not sure, depending on her eventual opponent.
A data table with three columns labeled "(index)," "Type," and "Count." The index column has values increasing sequentially from 0 to 26. The "Type" column starts with 'Immigration - Habeas Corpus - Alien Detainee (Prisoner Pet...', and the corresponding "Count" is 565. Next is 'Personal Injury - Health Care/Pharmaceutical Product Liabi...', with a count of 40. The results are sorted in descending order by Count.
I could have made an error, of course. Here is the summary I got in the browser console. /end
Excellent article, and you'd know better than me which cases should count, but looking at the New Cases Report (ecf.mnd.uscourts.gov/newcases/ope...) and doing a bit of scripting, I see 565 immigration-related habeas petitions filed in January 2026. Another 30 are "Habeas Corpus - General." /1
Isn't D. Minn. down about 14 attorneys and counting, just from resignations in 2026?
If you missed it, be sure to check out my in-depth discussion with Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty β who talks about Trump, Operation Metro Surge, Walz, local police, local prosecutors starting FAFO (Fight Against Federal Overreach) to push back, and more.
All of this. This is the minimum.
Also, Dems have a decent shot at House seats. IA01 barely went red the last two elections (literally six votes in 2022 IIRC). They could realistically flip up to three of the four seats.
Governor is likely competitive. Rob Sand is the only Dem holding statewide office there currently, and he is running for Governor.
Read the whole order. It's a stick to get the petitioner released before Friday, in which case the judge will cancel the hearing (upon joint stipulation that the petitioner is released).
