I do like how much that ILM documentary on Disney+ mentions cheats, time saves and ‘getting away with’ things. All creative work is a magic trick, and I think we can be shy about that, like the work is diminished by admitting that it’s done in spite of limitations and constraints.

But now we are not just printing books with trees. We are not digitizing for minimal impact.

We burn coal & fossil fuel at alarming rate to rationalize the benefits of the latest online tech.

We'd never print books on human skin. Bad example, we're a terrible species. Never at that quantity maybe.

I think the internet was not a bad idea. But despite attention it gets (for cults or how to build a bomb) it visibly serves as a moderate reinforcement loop, on main.

Just as printing press was mainly used for bibles. Then less visibly at the time, William Blake etc emerge. I doubt he'd be on here.

Will the organized & "extremely visible online" resistance always skew moderate on core principles?
✅️

We've all seen pro-violence actors—because hot takes earn clout—but is the rest of their approach sound?
Or does it just resonate enough at superficial level to hit notes for visibly online folks?

So much of what we want or aspire for under capitalism is subject to the Epwn Msk's of the world NOT coveting the same thing on a larger scale—or fucking it all up.

Why attach to digital tokens as if they hold importance?

Our human resistance does not need a perfect or recognized name to continue.

I remember how badly I coveted the @dodgethis handle on Twitter.

...How often I checked to see if that low activity account would be purged: "Have they made it available again, yet?"

Now, it would be worthless to me!

There is a lesson in that.

Wait no rich person who is NOT currently at the top of their corporate ladder wants to lose that access to power?

Oh darn! I just didn't want the next line of successors to spend so much time shadowing überfascists: learning their tactics through osmosis (& usually heaps of inflicted trauma afaik).

What if ai assistants could shield all of us other humans from having to deal with fascist executives and imperial state-craft operators?

A room full of Civ2 advisors that are chatbots editing JIRA boards.

They could manage comms with us ON OUR TERMS by acting as buffer where next in command sits.

Combine raw milk deregulation with the likely re-emergence of screw-worm in Texas* and it's got the makings of a nasty cocktail.

Don't be the one dunking on those who seek comfort during these times, is the message I guess.

I have my own feelings about myself seeking comfort that are rooted in the pretty toxic ideologies I was raised on.

So I guess, as always, self-reflection is important, too.

30 years ago the marketing hook for KFC was like Toonie* Tuesday

Now the hooks are subtle like Thaï Express intentionally spelling day of week Thuesday on their weekly exploration menu because some impressionable smuck will tweet about it like this

It's a seed jet, it will burrow deep underground and collect nutrients for many years until 20 jets blossom in a flying v that flies out, raining terror down on enemies of freedom and peace and rational thinking

Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

We are all so worried about next 5 years, it's hard to speak clearly about pretty alarming trends for the next 25 years. Social media does not seem to be helping with that anymore.

Remember when climate change was front and centre of discussion? Now that impending future is yesterday's news.

The Atlantic's @dkthomp.bsky.social wrote about a worrying trend in the economic data—the unemployment rate for recent college graduates is unusually high. One theory: Firms are hiring fewer grads into white collar jobs, and using more AI.

*This* is what an AI jobs crisis might look like.

This. Also there are similarities, but so much subjectivity exists in what gets me engaged in playing a game across various states of hypo/hyperfocus. Or compared to my preferences when I'm able to achieve controlled attention.

Don't trust an app is more legitimate or treats it's employees fairly simply because it has been monetized well and applied that financial power to secure access to resources.

I love games and they are still somewhat guilty of this, though the arbitrariness of achievements in games seems clearer. It's more the language learning & gamified education apps that I am targeting here:

e.g. where concept of black belt from a martial arts academy evolves into Duolingo "streaks".

05.05.2025 16:11 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

We should not have let corporations or apps become the arbiters of personal achievement.

Immediacy and intimacy of phone interaction has oversaturated the balance we need to weigh between legitimacy & ease of access.

I would be a lot more happy about paying more for games if I knew that revenue was actually going to the devs who worked on it. Getting residuals would fundamentally change the structure and nature of this industry.
