A sprawling pastoral meditation built for high elevations, the core of the album is a series of first take live improvisations with Chaz Prymek on electric guitar and @mjsage.bsky.social on piano. Gentle and hymn-like, deeply melodious, and patient.

coming to terms with short form contentment
Taking solace in a dreary February day and corresponding shivering weather during ongoing summer-like mid-winter climate events.
Made a substack post reconfiguration of a lecture I used to give when I was a college professor.
It is called "A Very Brief History of Recorded Sound" and is now a kind of semi-existential multimedia essay about how weird it is here...

There is more harsh noise in LA alone than in all of Indiana. Add San Diego, bay area, and shoot Portland and Seattle too... its just a massive scene. If Michigan was in the same zone as Ohio it would be over.
A lot of people out here acting like Ohio will own this, but team 1 west coast harsh noise is kind of a dynasty.
I also am tickled by pointing people to the Patient Sounds discog and pointing out that basically every one of those 150+ titles in that catalog took about 5 hours of design time each.

I am accepting graphic design work and commissions again! I wrote a little essay about why I love designing sound objects. Read it on my substack.

Issue 1 of the caribou current
Happy to celebrate the launch of a new Boulder County arts publication tonight β the Caribou Current. Check out cover star @mjsage.bsky.social β¦ www.cariboucurrent.com
Criminally underrated composer.
I am in a band called Fuubutsushi. People are always like "huh?" and then I say "Foo Butt Sushi" and they nod like they understood it the second time. Anyway, we just put our whole discography on bandcamp.

What a weird Earth we are up to these days.
I ran record labels for 20 years and I've decided I don't want to run a record label anymore.
Read about it here if you want! <3

this is absolutely blowing my mind rn
i've entered my "i don't make music, i just use synthesizers to make sounds that sound like digging through a very wet compost pile" era
Vinyl copy of M. Sageβs album βTender / Wadingβ sitting on a velvet Victorian photo stand. The record plays on a turntable beside it which is sitting on a record storage shelf lined with Christmas lights. #nowspinning #ambientjazz
Pretty much a daily vibe since I got it. M. Sageβs latest is possibly the height of his ambient-jazz powers, and with that catalogue, is saying a lot. Stunner. Absolutely one of the yearβs best. From Rvng. Intl.
M. Sage :: Tender / Wading
aquariumdrunkard.com/2025/10/07/m...
The Colorado-based M Sage resides in the liminal zone, finding endless inspiration in the in-between. Between natural and digital, stillness and motion, silence and noise, innocence and experience, waking and dreams.
Musician and artist Matthew Sage discusses his move to a Colorado farm, the challenges of balancing parenthood with creative work, and how his latest album 'Tender / Wading' benefits from letting art sit longer before sharing it with the world.
A Din of Toads β M. Sage's Rural Reckoning:
An image of a person whose face has been redacted holding up their fist. Two security officers hold them up. An american flag dangles limply and nearly upside down in the background.
