This is so cool! π
I want one. π

Iβve been feeling poorly this week, including a bit of a fever. The guys have been taking good care of me, though. This guy in particular doesnβt let me out of his sight.

Great to see progress, but I will wait to celebrate two of those cities until *after* the vote is done. π«£
One of my childhood friends is among those stuck in Dubai right now. He says his hotel is well away from βanything exciting,β which I suppose is good, but for 5 days now he has been trying to fly home to the US only to have flights cancelled over and over. No govβt help coming for evacuation.
Completely on board with @councilormorillo.bsky.social about what appropriate homeless responses should be, and that it might not be police. Andβ¦ that concludes their meeting. Looks like the vote on protections is being postponed. π«©
Looking less and less likely that protections will be passed today⦠only 2 minutes left.
I imagine that Councilor Zimmermanβs tiny polka dot suit looks dashing in personβ¦ I will say that on camera, itβs pretty headache-inducing. Going cross-eyed here and having trouble paying attention to what he is saying. Perhaps his new strategy? ππ₯΄
Just because you canβt get the data right now, there CAN be strong work to outline what kinds of data are going to be important to track and how that data will inform the work.
Very appreciative of @counciloravalos.bsky.social and @councilorkanal.bsky.social calling out needing strong measurable outcomes for the program being suggested on item 14; touches on my professional passions for well-thought-out evaluation methodology!
The meeting will be ending in 17 minutes no matter what/no matter whether they get to the protections packages. π«
Five minutes past 1 now; totally not anxiety-inducing at all... π¬π
I do want to make the very important comment that @counciloravalos.bsky.social has gorgeous new braids and that they look amazing with her outfit today. ππ
Only four minutes officially leftβ¦ Dunphy says theyβre going to go over to still get to the LGBTQIA2S+ protection packages. Appreciated - but this sure is coming down to the wire!
And now we have testimony from small business owners asking for increased police presence and funding on item 14. Iβm concerned that the requested response to a homeless crisis is more police. Nobody wants addiction or people living on the street. But not sure police is the answer here.
We are on agenda item 14 now. The civil rights protections ordinances are coming up next. Stay tuned! π We only have 20 minutes left of the meeting in totalβ¦ hoping things move swiftly and that we actually do get to those agenda items.
We have @councilorepg.bsky.social asking to reorder the agenda so we still get to these - thank you, Councilor! Seconded by Green.
Dunphy said they hope to get through 15 agenda itemsβ¦ which would exclude the ones we are most invested in right now. Feeling glad we didnβt come in person at this point, but I know that others did take the leap to be there, and even scheduled a Friday celebration hoping this would be passed today.π
We are about an hour behind schedule currently. Later agenda items are at risk of not being addressed. π¬
Right now we are on agenda item 10 (lots of PCEF conversations and discussions about affordable housing, also super important, of course)β¦ the agenda items for civil rights protections are items 16 and 17. It may take a while to get there. It looks like all of the councilors are present today.
We had hoped to be there in person today; Iβm feeling ill and so we are at home and watching on YouTube. I got a very sweet note from @councilortkl.bsky.social saying she hopes I rest up for future celebrations (aww) - Koyama Lane has been a total champion for this work and we are so grateful!
I wonder whether certain councilors will use this as an opportunity to complain about how their behind-closed-doors negotiations got upended by publicly re-adding specifically inclusive language in response to strong community demand. I hope they realize that itβs not a good look. π Will see!
The final Portland City Council vote for civil rights protections for a variety of family types (including non-monogamy) and for the wider LGBTQIA2S+ (especially trans) communities is this morning. π³οΈβππ³οΈββ§οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
I will be live-skeeting again - the meeting has started and we await the agenda item.
Congratulations, great-grandpa! And congratulations to your whole family. This is such a beautiful photo. β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
I only caught part of thatβ¦ but it sounds like theyβre talking about benefits, potentially, as well?
BLM refers to the federal Bureau of Land Management. (Not the other BLM.)
Please comment. These are Oregonβs ancient and precious temperate rainforests, old growth forests that cannot be replaced. Theyβre talking about overriding environmental protections and clear cutting at 400% current rates. π
What a wonderful picture! The moments that make beautiful memories. ππΈ
We have a huge old camellia hedge that is riotously in bloom right now, too - just to remind us all that there is always time for joy. π
Honestly, if civil rights are an issue that is straightforward enough to not get a ton of engagement, good! But after being in a triad for 17 years and having raised our children without having any protections for our jobs or housing, etc⦠I can tell you that those protections DO matter. For many.
Well, that sounds delightful! π¦π
Exactly. Protecting your own peace is not selfish. It is self-preservation and healthy.
