Pope Leo XIV could save millions of lives if he just tells Trump to restore USAID.

Will it happen?

Would he listen?

This is a sad story - and it also a case for why we need to invest in expert and adequate staffing to do oversight of our funds - the rapid slash and burn cuts to USAID and international assistance have made it more likely that funds could be misspent, as they have decimated those capacities.

πŸ™@lawrenceodonnell.msnbc.com for your segment just now on the stunning cruelty of the demolition of USAID and U.S. foreign assistance programs and how it is killing millions. We need more air time on this story and how much hurt it is causing to poor people around the 🌎 AND to America!

Thank you @billgates.com for everything you've done to save + improve the lives and opportunities for the world's poorest people over the past 25 years and what you will do with your wealth over the next 20. We need others to follow your lead, and to build the political will through advocacy.

No mother or child should die from a preventable cause. No generation should live in fear of deadly infectious diseases. And no one should be denied the chance to thrive because of where they were born. gatesnot.es/4m5pSc3

The losers? Americans.

Congress can stop this by doing its job. Share this article widely. Urge people to tell Congress to stop the hemorrhaging.

1) Fox News is for real not showing stock-market ticker during this week's collapse.

2) Its economic news is "strong jobs report."

3) Every time I've checked in today, the coverage has been "illegal immigrants committing new crimes."

This is state propaganda, on a par with North Korea or PRC.

@HillaryClinton is precisely right

Smart power is good for πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έand the 🌍 - eviscerating US aid only helps our rivals

This is what the federal government is supposed to do: help people in need. Not billionaires.

A mural of Tony Fauci was meant to inspire staff. Then NIH took it down. Five years after the coronavirus pandemic began, Trump officials continue to blame Fauci for missteps β€” and are minimizing his presence on his old campus.

More excellent reporting from @ddiamond.bsky.social on the despicable decision to remove Tony Fauci's mural at NIH and ban his speech.

Dr Fauci will always be an American hero. Who is with me?

This is exactly what I have been saying for a while now. At this point, it’s not left vs right that matters, but fighters vs non-fighters. The Dems, and the American people, need fighters.

Public Health Survived the Pandemic. Now It Fights Politics. Five years after the pandemic began, many local health officials say that the politicization of Covid has left them with fewer tools and fresh challenges.

The cycle of panic and neglect.
