Watching new Stranger Things. I’ve seen every episode since the beginning and yet I have no idea who half these people are or what’s going on. That can’t be good, right?

I was lucky enough to attend an evening with both T and M to promote the release of the whole thing on DVD box set, which I gladly bought. So I’m watching them all on that. But I’m not sure how easy to get it these days. It’s not on any streaming service that I can see.

Inspired by reading the lovely Terry Jones biography by Robert Ross to revisit Ripping Yarns. It’s comedy perfection start to finish, so well written and performed by Jones and Palin. Easily up there with the best of Python. Every episode is great but Tomkinson’s Schooldays is a masterclass.

I’ve never got on with this sort of platform. I’m shit at it. See also Threads and Twitter. And Facebook is a complete washout. So I stick pretty much exclusively to Instagram, although that’s gone south recently. I can’t wait until all of social media collapses under its own shittification.

I’m barely on here and forgot all about this. Nope, it’s former Doctor Who wife Sandra Dickinson. Superman III montage and she was the Wayne Foundation secretary in The Batman.

Had a lot of fun being a part of this, recorded in almost a single take.

RIP Joe Caroff, much overlooked graphic designer who gave us some fantastic movie posters. He also designed the iconic 007 gun logo. #film #graphicdesign

It’s time for comedy to reclaim its cinematic throne Against all the odds, and to the surprise of many – me included – the new Naked Gun reboot starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson is a hit. Positive critical response and word of mout…

I've written a thing about the loss of comedy films in cinemas, and why its time to bring them back.

We are proud of it. I’m currently doing some digging to see if I can unearth the lost episodes…

There were so many, including the original incarnation of Show & Tell. Comedy Central had no interest nor respect for this series even though we got millions of downloads back in the day. They buried it. So it goes.

Once upon a time, before podcasts were ubiquitous, I produced a series called Utter Shambles for @robinince.bsky.social and @josielong.bsky.social

We had brilliant guests, but a lot of episodes are lost. Around 25 still exist out there, they were really fun to do and I recommend you seek them out.

I hadn't seen it in literally decades. I was so pleased to discover how well it stands up. Like that cactus.

Thoroughly enjoyed chatting about this underrated gem starring Jeff Goldblum, Emma Thompson and Rowan Atkinson. Written by Richard Curtis before he descended into sentimental guff, Mel Smith’s directorial debut is far from perfect but utterly charming.

First Ozzy, now the Hulkster…soon there will be no one left to make amusing cameos in cult comedies.

Right now the world seems more fragmented and polarised than ever in my lifetime. But I think we can all agree there is no better music genre for a balmy May evening in the garden than yacht rock.

Conference: The Victorians - Berkshire Family History Society In 2025, Berkshire Family History Society celebrates its 50th birthday several ways, the most important being this celebratory conference

Saturday June 7th I'm at this, talking about stuff from my book, "Death and the Victorians". Very much looking forward. If you're in that neck of the woods, come say hello.

Isn’t it though! Like Joel it was a gap in my Carol Reed knowledge. It’s everything the Third Man isn’t, while sharing the cinematic strengths of that work. For such a small film, it’s so impactful and really lingers in the mind, doesn’t it?

Thank YOU. It’s a cracking little pod. It’s like Desert Island Discs - you can’t help but be drawn in and utterly captivated by the deeply personal confessional intimacy of each episode, while at the same time, working out what yours would be as you listen. Splendid stuff.

The Fallen Idol - with Robin Ince Podcast Episode · Comfort Blanket · 14/11/2024 · 1h 3m

Catching up on #ComfortBlanket. This episode is gorgeous. I’d not seen Fallen Idol before so it prompted me to seek out this slice of postwar British Noir. It’s classy, smart, thoughtful, warm and fascinating. So just like this ep then. Bravo @robinince.bsky.social and @gralefrit.bsky.social
