A rare thing: *four* three-year hums/soc-sci posts in animal studies, on the Multispecies Mutualisms project at UoSheffield - with @rosaleenduffy.bsky.social, me, Robert McKay and Alasdair Cochrane; see here for a video explainer: digitalmedia.sheffield.ac.uk/media/Multis...
AI: *bombs a hospital*
AI ETHICS: It's also more likely to assume a doctor must be a man and a nurse must be a woman :((
Philosophers! I am now eligible to act as a supervisor for Marie Curie fellowships at the University of Vienna. If youβre interested in applying for one, you can find the details here: careers.univie.ac.at/en/research-...
A Christmas Carol but instead it's the ghosts of Aquinas, Butler and the actual grim reaper and the target is a Times journalist who "well, ackshually"s a manifestly illegal war
I sometimes day dream about the ghost of Smedley Butler doing a mild haunting of some of these people
The little free library model of the economy (take a couch, but you're not really a couch maker so you leave a muffin, it will totally work)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I can't take credit for these words, by the way. They were first uttered by the sitting Home Secretary.
Chotiner: You've made the claim that no one has ever fed you in your life.
My Cat: Maow.
Chotiner: Yet there's food in your dish right now.
My Cat: Maow.
Chotiner: Let's change the subject to the ripped-open bag of sandwich bread on the floor.
My Cat: Maow.
Chotiner: I have read different things.
Your regular reminder than a large majority of voters - and overwhelming majority of Labour voters - favour giving settled migrants access to the welfare state after five years or less. The Home Secretary is not reforming rules in line with public opinion. She is doing the opposite.

MAYBE I can use this great conference to pitch my idea?

It's just so neat!
I really don't need more projects to work on, but I really can't shake the urge to write something about how the fish doorbell is a great case study for thinking about animal-human relationships. Maybe use the solidarity literature a bit. Throw in the term "conviviality" (not entirely uncritically).
Realising I haven't advertised this hereβI'm hiring! Walter Dean and I have a project on measuring the strength of mathematical theorems used in philosophy, and we're looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join our team.

I'll be honest, while I think all of this stuff going mainstream is very bad, "mogged" is probably one of my favourite bits of manosphere slang. Unlike a lot of their bullshit it feels actually useful as a term. Sometimes you really do just get mogged
Greg Davies: Great task, well done. Didnβt eat a thing.
Persephone: Thank you.
Alex Horne: Ah. Well. Letβs take another look at that pomegranate.
Another year, another Public Reason panel at MANCEPT.
This year MANCEPT takes place *before* Labour Day! So hopefully more people from North America will be able to take part.
Hope to see some of you in Manchester in six months!

A reminder: Matt Goodwin lost heavily in spite of an almost total lack of tactical voting, not because of it.
The combined Green/Labour vote was 66%, versus 28.7% for Reform.
If Labour and the Greens split the vote 50/50 β a total coordination fail β he'd have finished third, not second.
friend sent this over from the other place and unfortunately I did laugh
