This is my 5th pregnancy (in 6.5 years) and every week, when I prepare my schedule for the upcoming week, I keep ignoring past me who was always so tired and unfocused at any point in her pregnancy. Forgetfulness is the reason we survive but also burn out.

Interview work:
Most days are hard (why won’t they talk to me?).
Many days involve self-doubt (maybe I’m doing it all wrong).
Some days are great (that interview was illuminating!!).
And a few days are bold (sure, I’ll reach out directly to the leader of that huge organization, they might answer).

I used to love going out for a run while listening to news podcasts. These last few weeks though I’ve only wanted to run indoors while watching Netflix. One reason is I don’t want to slip on the icy sidewalks. The other one is I really don’t want to listen to more news about our Southern neighbour.
How my 3 yo remembers that ride: there was a driver and he had no hair. I think he put it in the garbage.
I am def using that example in class to talk about how diverse frames produce very different understandings of a same situation.

A Lyft driver, after listening to me say something to my daughter, silently changed the radio station from CBC to Ici Radio Canada : a pro move.
In their defence, it would take me forever to write an email to a professor at the start of my PhD, to find the right words and tone in formal writing in my second language. But I would re-read the draft so many times that I don’t think I would have missed the header had I had access to and used AI!
Jan 2, 9.15 am: I’m finally back in my office, what a relief! I’m going to be able to get so much done today.
Jan 2, 10.12 am: it’s quiet in here… I wonder how M&M (aka my kids) are doing at daycare today… I wish I could check in on them. Maybe I’ll find the answer scrolling through social media.

How is my pregnancy going? For several days I’ve been sending my children to their respective school and daycare with a pair of left-hand mittens of different sizes for one and a pair of right-hand mittens of different sizes for the other.
So, not great?
And what might happen beyond global civil society? Big donors are also involved in international institutions. Might their message change too to maintain funding? The power of billionaires goes beyond money. They have a message, an audience, and they are well-positioned in the structure.
Bill Gates is an important actor of climate philanthropy and it’s important to consider the effects of that message shift on global climate governance. Many NGOs have included climate in their framing of projects to attract funding. Is this likely to change in the coming years?

Yes! Also, being recognized at a smaller institution might offer students more support than being just another student at a prestigious university. Eventually that support might be more helpful than the name of the prestigious university.
And by doing that, it potentially makes our lives a lot more difficult.
