Either way, I think this demonstrates how Anthropic's demands to USG were justified and are important—this is why you have people double check AI targeting, even if it turns out that Claude wasn't involved!

Perhaps the most important part of this is that it would suggest the possibility that any US citizen may have standing to bring a case on behalf of a noncitizen persecuted for speech. I have not seen it done successfully, but I haven’t heard of it being done for visa holders as opposed to visitors

Relatedly, deporting immigrants for speech or refusing entry to noncitizens—often legal to do under the current regime—has been found on occasion to violate Americans’ right to hear particular viewpoints
