Persian Gulf IV: Illegal and Illegaler
Yeah, I assumed so. I canβt really get into it but, based on my experience, I donβt share the perspective of betrayal.
Thatβs not how Iβd characterize it but I think the Kurds likely would. Important to note that there are real divisions among the Kurds, and Iβm not sufficiently knowledgeable to know whether these are closer to the SDF in Syria or the Iraqis, which might affect how they feel about the US
Iβm not sure arming a ethnic minority with separatist objectives is (a) a good way to encourage the majority population to rally to your cause; or (b) an effective way to reassure regional allies.
Which I take as corroborating your supposition.
If nothing else, the two-day lag in discovering two additional KIA indicates a fairly surprising troop-accountability issue.
I'm under the impression that the Assembly of Experts are civilian religious leaders. If so, directly targeting them would be a war crime.
Utter abrogation of responsibility. This is what happens when you go to war without having thought about the consequences; when you install ideologically-aligned toadies into positions of responsibility; when you systematically and intentionally degrade the capacity of government.
EXCLUSIVE: At more than 30 installations, U.S. commanders told troops the war on Iran is a Christian war.
The Military Religious Freedom Foundation has been βinundatedβ with more than 110 complaints.
One NCO said they were told the U.S. war is to bring about Armageddon and the return of Jesusβ¦
The US Embassy in Saudi Arabia was hit by two drones, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN, amid ongoing barrage of retaliatory strikes by Iran. There were no initial reports of injuries, according to one of the sources.

In light of what we've seen so far, I assert that the best characterization of Operation Epic Fury is as a *punitive expedition* = "a military journey undertaken to punish a political entity or any group of people outside the borders of the punishing state or union"

The DA in Minneapolis is investigating Bovino and others.
The U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran are illegal.
Iran's attacks in Gulf States are illegal.
The U.K. defending Gulf States is legal, but allowing the U.S. to use its bases is illegal.
In short, everyone is violating international law and should stop.

The utter absence of any form of accountability for torture and its apologists is truly the gift that never quits giving
The chief appeal of AirPower will always be that it is more politically palatable than other types of military operations
No reported current membership or affiliation with the armed forces or security services. Most likely not DPHing. What made him a military objective?
I imagine youβre right
This claim struck a particularly false note for me, as well, for the reasons that Mark notes. And because of its seeming gratuitousness.
It does raise the question of what is becoming of any remaining AQ βguestsβ in Iran.
The US and Israel called on the Iranian people to rise up. The people of Bahrain took the offer up instead. π

It would be cool to have a legislature that acted to defend its own constitutional prerogatives and, maybe as a treat, the interests of the people it represents too.
The strikes on Iran are blatantly illegal. I explained in June why the strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities were unlawful under US and international law. Everything I wrote then is true today, but this is a far larger assault with far graver consequences.

Wonder what @sodrock.bsky.social has to say about this
To be clear, illegal under both international and domestic US law.
never look at your phone when you get up to take a leak. someone might have started an idiot war
Woke up to news that the United States and Israel jointly launched a large-scale and incontrovertibly illegal attack on Iran. Already thatβs resulted in violence in 5 countries outside of Iran, Israel, or the United States.
An unpopular president is about to drag the country into an unpopular war. Democratic leader should be out front in opposition, not politely asking for a briefing.
