LIDA Co-Director, Professor Susan Grant-Muller, shares her thoughts on the theme and five ways that LIDA supports women in Data Science & AI, as well aims for the future to continue progress towards change including:
International Women's Day: 'Give to Gain' means "emphasizing the power of reciprocity and support. When people, organizations, and communities give generously, opportunities and support for women increase. Giving is not a subtraction, it's intentional multiplication. When women thrive, we all rise."

Calling all NHS Data Scientists, Analysts, Engineers and AI pro's π
We're mapping career pathways in health data and identifying what helps (or blocks) progression, particularly into leadership.
Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting the Department for Transport (DfT) Senior Analyst Team at Virtuocity. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our ongoing work, share insights, and explore how advanced simulation and behavioural research can support evidence-based transport policy.

AIFL is designed to integrate into operational workflows, capturing key hydrological dynamics while providing robust predictions for both routine and extreme events. Maria outlined its architecture, training strategy, and preliminary evaluation results.
Recent advances in #MachineLearning offer new opportunities to complement these models and improve predictive skill across diverse basins.
Maria spoke about #flood forecasting at large scales being critical as extreme events become more frequent. ECMWF provides the computational backbone for operational systems such as GloFAS and EFAS, delivering global and european streamflow predictions.
LIDA AI ON CATCHUP - NEW EPISODE
Our Scientific Machine Learning group recently hosted a presentation on AIFL, a deterministic LSTM-based model under development for global daily streamflow forecasting.
Maria Luisa Taccari spoke from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts - ECMWF.

If youβre:
β sitting on valuable data
β stretched for in-house data science capacity
β exploring AI or automation opportunities
β looking for rigorous, research-led insight
β¦this is an opportunity to explore whatβs possible.
We work with public, private and third sector organisations to turn real-world data into practical insights, by pairing organisations with academic experts and data scientists at the @universityofleeds.bsky.social for six-month collaborative projects.
Got data, but not enough time or expertise to unlock its value?
We are opening a limited consultation window for organisations interested in joining our Data Insights Programme.
Process mining offers a way to analyse variation and flow in care delivery, using existing data, and is increasingly relevant to health analytics, service evaluation and the use of #AI in healthcare settings.

Work to date by LIDA Acadamic Fellow, Owen Johnson, includes methodology development, NHS-based case studies, training activity, and engagement with national and international stakeholders.
Process mining for health: one year of the LIDA Academic Fellowship
Our first Academic Fellowship in #Processmining for #Health at the @universityofleeds.bsky.social focuses on applying methods to #HealthRecords, to better understand real clinical pathways across @england.nhs.uk services.

With rising expectations, squeezed budgets and limited internal capacity, more organisations are turning to fixed-term data and AI expertise.
Our programme gives you the insights and technical capacity you need while your team continues focusing on their day-to-day.
β Final chance to join our Intelligent Insights session next week!
If you work in the private, public or third sector and don't have the internal resource to explore important data and AI questions in your organisation, join us on Monday 12th January to hear about our short data insights projects.
We also extend our sincere thanks to Professor Michelle Morris for her outstanding leadership and lasting contribution to the programmes success.
