TODAY'S FOCUS: Alternative voices With the sale of the Twin Cities Reader and the switch of Rev 105 to X105, the metro area suddenly could lose two of its loudest voices outside the mainstream. format By Jon Bream Star Tribune Staff Writer The Revolution is over. Rev 105, the progressive I a step aheat of hip whie also acknowledging td a step ahead of hip while also acknowledging its revolutionary forerunners, was quietly sold to Capital Cities/ABC on Monday and — without notice to listeners - converted to hard-rock X105 at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. After the Rev played songs by Semisonic, Matthew Sweet and the finale, the Beatles' "Hello Goodbye," it was time for Scorpions, Metallica and Aero- smith - "Pure Rock," the station bellowed. "Turn us up LOUD - the new X105." The 3-year-old Rev 105 is now part of the media family that owns "We're boycotting the radio if Rev isn't on. This is a very depressing day." KQRS-FM and KEGE- FM - the Edge, Rev's - Amy Johnson, 13, Minneapolis chief musical competi-tor. The staffs of all three stations were informed of the sale in simultaneous meetings at 11 a.m. Tuesday. "Every time you do this you excite somebody and you disappoint somebody else, said Mark Stein-metz, president and general manager of the three stations. He went through a similar experience when Capital Cities bought heavy-metal 93X in 1994 and switched it to alternative-rock KEGE. "This (X105] should appeal to people who have gone to their CD players (and tuned out radio] for a while." Turn to RADIO on A14 Also on A14: -The unrelated sales of radio station Rev 105 and the Reader, the weekly tabloid, broke hearts of many people looking past the mainstream. Photo caption: Unsure about her future, Shawn Stewart, former Rev 105 music director and DJ, took some things out to her car Tuesday. She and other ex-employees will be allowed to apply for openings at X105, but there's no guarantee they'll be hired.
On this day: March 11, 1997. Twin Cities alternative radio station REV 105 abruptly changed to a different name and music format under new ownership. Here is the Star Tribune story the next day.
We stayed up for this? And again tomorrow night?

No Balls Association
He was. I was there.
I think changing the clocks in the spring and fall is good, and works pretty well.
This one is probably over. Wolves weren’t going to win every one from here on out. Time to turn it off and enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Power out in SE Metro. No Wolves game for me tonight.
At least not on Earth you mean.
Slow-Mo playing 15 max.
Slow-Mo playing all 48 in his absence.
The Golden Age
They’ve been conditioned given the team’s history. That being said, I feel like even if the score was 120-0, someone would complain about something.
If Mike and Joe leave, I would think so. He fits that readership role, loves Minnesota and can play multiple positions.
#12 - can we verify before tomorrow? 😂
#12 I’m guessing.
Sturgill just dropped his new record on YouTube a few weeks early…

100% understand!
I think she gets a bad rap somewhere. She’s the only woman on these national broadcasts doing play by play and you do have to wonder if *some* of it is related to that. Not you specifically just in general. I don’t see this kind of vitriol on social media towards other commentators.
They both wear headbands?
Is Slo-Mo in the building today?
I hope so.
Might be the quarter most like watching a rec league game you’ll ever see.
Julius Randle just makes me mad right now.
So happy to read this!
I shed a tear when reading this. One of my all-time favorite Wolves.
I live in Minnesota and I want the federal government to stop trying to kill us. And hurt us. I want them to stop attacking us.
It sucks.
We’re just trying to live our lives and take care of each other and we don’t deserve all this.
I kid around sometimes here but I’m not kidding now.
